host: you're on with mary agnes carey. caller: ok.'m a medicare beneficiary, and october 1 now when when it stuff -- this stuff kicks in, will i be able to get into the insurance exchanges and is my health premium going to go up? >> as a medicare beneficiary, you're already enrolled in coverage so you don't have to do anything. if you wanted to look at the exchanges and if you looked at a health insurance exchange and you saw a plan you thought was better than your medicare plan, you could decide to enroll in that but you wouldn't get a subsidy, you wouldn't be eligible for any financial assistance because you have credible coverage. you have medicare coverage. now, as far as your premiums and so on in medicare, your part b premium is stable for next year with the current rate which is about $104. if you take medicare part d which is your prescription drug coverage, those plans average about $30. and whether or not your expenses go up as a beneficiary depends a lot on what the government pays to providers. and right now the government

julie carey has the story. >> reporter: david thatcher jr., helping to carry his lawyer's file boxesa day in court he hopes will convince jurors he's innocent. he confessed to hurting the twins because he thought police would go easier on him. he says he hoped a confession would clear the way for relatives to visit the surviving daughter fighting for her life in the hospital. news 4 learned of this case last year in the search warrant documents. they described the death of her and her twin. they were born prematurely to his live-in girlfriend. they made frequent visits to a pediatrician. thatcher and the baby's mother called 911 then one stopped breathing. she died ç inj sister%6y];w9 admitted to the same hospital. the hea9 showed a he injuries from bruises on the leg to a stab in the eye. he says he made it all up. the attorney said why confess? thatcher, i thought it would be better to tell them what they wanted to hear. his attorney, did you ever do anything to hurt or injure your daughter? thatcher, no. they found evidence of blunt force trauma, they said ct scans showed they had

julie carey reports his confession to the police was a lie. >> reporter: david thatcher leaving courter telling jurors he confessed to hurting his baby girls because he thought the police would go easier on him. he wanted them to permit relatives to fight for their life. news 4 first learned of the unusual case last year in the search warrant documents. 6-week-old twins were born prematurely to his live-in girlfriend. thatcher testified she would have choking fits and both had trouble eating. june 7, 2012, thatcher and the baby's mother called 911 when she stopped breathing and soon died after. her sister was admitted to the same hospital. they saw the crucial piece of evidence, a video tape confession. in it, thatcher admits to hurting his baby girls describing in detail how they received injuries from bruised legs to a poked eye. he failed a polygraph exam. on the stand, he told jurors he made it all up. he asked why confess? he said i thought it would be better if i told them what they wanted to hear. his attorney, did you ever do anything to hurt or injure either of your daughters
