you mentioned north carolina. we had a vote less than 24 hours before president obama came out and supported same-sex marriage we had a vote in north carolina that would ban same-sex marriage, say that the only legal recognizable union in the state is between a man and woman. that's a swing state. not only a swing state of course it's the state that the democratic national convention will be in in a few months time. and the obama team picked that because they know north carolina is a swing state and they want to emphasize it. so, you know, it's an interesting dichotomy. if you look nationally, luke, polling would suggest that legalization of gay marriage, support for legalization of gay marriage is rising rapidly. if you look state by state, though, there's a disconnect. as you point out 32 times since 1998 it's been on the ballot. 32 times it's failed the folks trying to get gay marriage legalized. so that tells you something. there is a disconnect. we're still trying to figure out why it is. but this is not a slam dunk i
