both in carroll county and in harford county, a lot of the damage here in towson and some parts of northern baltimore county is more isolated and we're dealing with situations like this one here. that is a pretty big tree that has crashed through this house. and just assessing the damage from right now and some of my experience with dealing with tornadoes and tornado damage, the high wind reports that we've seen in this area really are not consistent with that of a tornado. we've seen a couple of situations like this one uprooted trees which usually mean high winds when there's no other damage around the area. so there is one thing to take into consideration here, though, when you're dealing with an ef-1 tornado that has a maximum sustained wind of 94 miles per hour, that type of storm is capable of uprooting trees but usually we see a lot more damage surrounding it. that would be shingles ripped off homes, other downed limbs in the area and we're just not seeing that right now. very quickly, i did get some storm data from the national weather service and they are telling us as far as repor

the two storm cells that went across carroll county crossing the susquehanna into lancaster county up to the north of us. that was what initiated all of this. to the west, another line in the mountains. the i-95 corridor all of the yellow-80 counties from the eastern shore to the mountains under a tornado watch until 9:00 tonight. even down there is the latest 21, and in baltimore, we are under a severe thunderstorm warning. why is this happening? these are current temperatures to the request of us. 50's,'s 50, -- the 40's, and 60's. while we are in the upper 70's n e's here along the eastern seaboard. you collide these air masses together, and you get a tremendous amount of lead, which is what is producing the showers and thunderstorms in our area right now. look at the rain that has come down. again, you get into this little strike here where those strong to severe storms went through, and you get into the yellow- shaded area. all of that comes down in less than an hour, so you get some flooding rains along the path of these storms. we will continue to put it this is the rainfall to

meghan mccorkell is just back from carroll county live with the damage. gigi barnett reports from hartford county and bob turk is tracking radar from the first warning weather center and pat warren joining us with pictures you sent all over the area. let's start with meghan mccorkell. she's live with us tonight. meghan? >> reporter: denise, this is pretty much what it looks like all over the region. take a look at this massive tree that just fell down. the power of this storm is just amazing and fell across our area. driving rain and frightening wind. >> the trees were in front of the house, bending over. >> reporter: doug and his wife were inside their home when a 90-foot tree smashed through the roof, nearly hitting them. >> it was panic. it was just a panic. my wife screaming, trying to find the cats. water was seeping down into the family room. >> reporter: the tree tore through the roof making the room unlivable. this family wasn't alone. one local tree service company said within two hours after the storm, they already received 50 phone calls. >> i w

that is all of carroll county. the pretty boy area of baltimore county. then, down toward the sea all of this developing as a cold front roles our way. look at the cloud front. ohio and out across southeastern michigan. 49 degrees in northern michigan. you collide those air masses together, and you get the violent weather. that is the way we think the radar will look roughly 9:00 tonight. another line of storms comes through and around the clock, progresses east of us, and by tomorrow morning, skies are clearing out nicely. it will be a nice northwesterly breeze. much more comfortable they during the day tomorrow. tonight, showers and storms until about 9:00 from 10:00, 11 of, of raleigh freddie, and more come high temperatures of 70 or 80 -- tomorrow, high temperatures of 70 or 80. most of the week and looks pretty nice before it turns a little bit unsettled again for monday, tuesday, wednesday with scattered showers and high temperatures in the 70's. we are coming up on 6:30 -- i would give it another three or four hours before we can give it all clear.

storms could produce some damaging wind gusts, again severe thunderstorm warnings in effect for carroll county, maryland, adams, pennsylvania and franklin, pennsylvania. let's talk about some of the video we also shot friday over pleasant hill in harford county, maryland, where the national weather service has now confirmed at least nine tornadoes touching down in maryland friday. this includes six counties across the state, three in montgomery, one in prince george's county, one in carroll county. some of them were ef-0 which were a minor tornado. we had a couple stronger ef-1 tornadoes in harford which is what you see some of the damage here in the video and also howard counties with estimated wind speed of 86 to 110 miles per hour. let's go back to the weather computer and show you some of the radar returns we're getting this evening. in the immediate d.c. metro area we saw a few scattered showers popping up this afternoon. you can see most of the activity is to the north where we have the lightning up toward the mason dixon line in southern pennsylvania and again some of these have prompte

certainly a lot of the damage we saw in carroll county and harford county was more consistent of that -- of a tornado. very quickly, i did get some information from the national weather service as far as storm reports here. we've had 17 tornado reports. 113 high wind reports and 64 hail reports. that's for this entire storm. most of those reports coming from the mid atlantic region. and north into new york. and parts of pennsylvania. now, today, folks from the national weather service will be out and about and going to some of these different areas to assess the damage and confirm whether tornadoes struck down or the damage that they're dealing with has to do with high winds. but again, here in towson, we're hearing about certain situations of trees down like this one here in the 600 block of chestnut avenue. at pine ridge golf course, they're dealing with some damage there and downed trees. a lot of work for tree removal crews here and one quick note, i was talking to some of the contractors out here and believe it or not, they plan to have this tree out of the house within the next

a small plane crashed in carroll county airport in westminster. >> we have learned that the pilot has died. nadia has been following the story all day and joins us live from carroll county regional airport with the latest. >> a very sad story. the airport is still closed due to this tragic crash, but they're hoping to reopen at some time this evening. officials have been out here all day trying to piece together what caused this tragic crash. here is a bird's-eye view from sky team 11 moments after the single-engine plane crashed. >> my heart goes out to his family. "just after 10:00, witnesses told the maryland state police they noticed a small plane bobbing up and down just north of westminster. the months later, the small aircraft crashed 30-50 feet from the runway. emergency crews arrived on scene to assist the unconscious 64- year-old man. a helicopter tried to taken to shock trauma, but the chopper had mechanical issues and had to be grounded. the man boarded in ambulance. the second man picked them up in reisterstown. he passed away at the hospital after suffering a cardiac eve

we talked about flash flooding concerns, saw it to the north and west over carroll county.is a wall of water. it's called training -- one, two, three, four, five, six storms, dumping copious amounts of rain, just toward the west of baltimore. we'll be tracking it. we'll have numerous flash flood warnings in effect and we'll talk more about the radar and the watches and warnings coming up in a little bit. >> with this first cell that wrents through, are upanticipating worse -- went through, are you anticipating worse weather? >> we're still inside the peak heating of the day, joce. i think right around 7:00 we'll segway from the tornado -- segue from the tornado risk. this is the cold front that will kick everything offshore. the storms are lifting from south to north. we're seeing the storms tapping into rotation. we have tornado warnings. once this pushes through we'll kick all the humidity and mess offshore and get into a better condition. let's break down timeline wise. between now and 7:00 there's a pretty good risk for tornadoes and as we head into after hours, 8, 9, 1
