good news and bad news in the casey anthony trial today. that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. first the good news and it is scant. judge belvin perry gave ms. anthony the maximum sentence for lying, four years but she will be released next week because of time served and good behavior in jail. so ms. anthony walks while her two-year-old daughter caylee's murder remains unsolved. in addition, florida representative bill hager introduced legislation called caylee's law that would make it a felony for a parent or legal guardian to fail to report a missing child to authorities dislarks law should be passed immediately in every state. now, for the bad news. obviously casey anthony does not deserve to walk free, most americans understand that. if you don't think she is a killer just the fact she didn't report her two-year-old missing for 30 days means the woman should spend a long time in prison. her good fortune that she will soon be free is directly because of the jury's verdict. so far, just one juror has spoken out. >> a

it is one person, the defendant, casey anthony. another effective line i thought from the prosecutor is when she said, look, the defendant wants you to believe everyone else in this case is a liar except for the one person who is the proven liar in this case which again is casey anthony. so i thought that the prosecutors did a good job of streamlining the case, and telling essentially a compelling story of guilt. they had to pull together all of the various strands. on the other hand, there are a lot of questions about this case. no criminal case is perfect. there are oddities. the forensics aren't as strong as the prosecution would like them to be. >> we don't know the cause of death, and we don't know how caylee anthony died. >> well, the prosecution cannot come in and say how the child died and lots of questions about the sufficiency of the evidence, for example, they found one hair in the trunk of the car which had postmortem banding which is only on the hair of the decomposing body, and some jurors may say why not more dna and

forensics with all the thing that were found at the scene of the remain that they can connect to casey anthony bedding, the duct tape, the hamper bag. the defense then spins that all and says guess what. who else had access to all those items? george, her dad, and essentially tried to put george on trial. and i do have do compliment the defense here. there is ability in bias among a lot of commentators toward the prosecution. you have to stay defense did a good job. it was at least four hours and they're not even done. and they basically wrote like a revisionist history book with charts and graph that's laid out all the evidence and 99% of the witnesses, including photographs, giving their version of events with calendars and everything. so i'm not saying anybody will believe the pool drowning, the accidental pool drowning, but they may have done enough to create reasonable doubt and puncture holes in premeditated murder. >> it was supposed to be a witness for the defense. the prosecution even said that george anthony lied. he lied about an affair. he lied about burying the dog and the plastic

casey anthony released from jail. the car she had a few protesters and supporters cheered and jeered as she walked out of that jail. kristen dahlgren was there. how did the entire release go down? >> reporter: good morning, richard. it was just after midnight when casey anthony walked out after almost three years here in the orange county jail. the jail took extraordinary step of allowing a pool of three journalists inside as casey was being released to capture those photographs of her. she walks with her attorney jose baez, pretty much looked straight ahead, showed little emotion. she did say thank you to one of the officer that was there and walked out. when she went out the door you heard those screams of the protesters erupting, some yelling killer or baby killer. she still looked straight ahead. she quickly got into a waiting suv and then they drove away, news choppers tracking them. at some point they lost that suv. so this morning we still don't know exactly where casey anthony is. we to know she left the jail

the 7 day forecast is coming up in a little bit. >> 7 02 a m, casey anthony has been sentenced to four years in prison on four counts of lying to investigators, who were looking into the death of her two year-old daughter caylee in 2080. anthony will get credit for time served which is three years. when they calculate everything else which they have not done yet, the judge says she should be released sometime by the end of this month or in early august. here is what happens in the courtroom when the sentence was announced. >> i will sentence you bonds to one year in orange county jail, imposing a $1,000 fine per each all four counts are to run consecutive giving it credit for the time that you have previously served. >> the judge did not accept the defense's argument, they tried at the last minute to have those for lying convictions combined into one of events which would have meant less jail time. the judge said, therefore individual accounts. -- they were four separate accounts. casey anthony could be released by the end of this month or early august. >> what we are getting live pict

bill: casey anthony is not going home today. that's the headline from the orange county courtroom, where judge belvin perry from moments ago. he rejected the argument on behalf of the defense that the lies that casey anthony told were all part of one conversation. the judge ruling these were four distinct and separate lie lies that sent investigators on a wild goose chase, to borrow the phrase used by the prosecution, between july and december, searching for young caylee anthony, a search that ended in a grove about a half mile from her home, the remains of her two-year-old daughter found inside of a garbage bag. she has served 997 days, going back to october 2008. the judge today sentencing her to one year in jail and $1000 fine. now we will do the math in about a month's time, when they come back to court to figure out if 997 days is sufficient for that courtroom. the judge, andrew napoll tan i, do we have the math right, could she walk free in a month or is this a woman who will be behind bars for a year? >> i think she will
