but first more on castro's day in court. an exclusive look into the backyard of his home and his past. we'll go to pamela brown live outside the home of the freed kidnapped victim gina dejesus. good morning to you, pam. >> reporter: good morning to you. as the women heal and recover, we hear from sources that ariel castro confessed to some of his actions related to his behavior over the last ten years. these exclusive pictures obtained by cnn give us the first glimpse into ariel castro's backyard, though much of it is obscured by tarps, jugs are strewn all around. and this weary image of a white cross spotted by a neighbor. at his first court appearance, castro looked despondent looking down and making eye contact with no one. >> we evaluate to seek charges eligible for the death penalty. >> reporter: following arraignment, the prosecutor made it clear additional charges could likely be added. castro already faces four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape. >> for each and every act of sexual violence, rape, each day

the three kidnap victims said they never left castro's property but there are counts that castro didake the little girl out. moses cintron says he occasionally saw castro with the 6-year-old in a neighborhood park. the girl, he says, wouldn't play with other children. but would pet his small dogs. >> she was well-dressed, you know, and well cared of. slightly slender, but, you know, she was also kind of white. >> reporter: cintron now says he'd like to take one of his dogs to the girl to let her play with it so she won't have to come back to that park. brian todd, cnn, cleveland. >> and we are also hearing for the first time from the mother of ariel castro. lillian rodriguez mae a very tearful plea for forgiveness to the young women and their mothers. saying i suffer because they suffered. >> translator: i have a sick son who has done something serious. i'm suffering very much. i ask for forgiveness from those mothers. may those girls forgive me. i suffer the pain they suffered. i'm suffering for my son's pain. my son is sick and i have nothing to do with what my son did. >> ariel ca

before ariel castro. into custody initially. and no charges in connection with this case. but as we heard in the hearing, they are facing some misdemeanor charges, open container, drug abuse, so forth. it appears they will be released after they pay their fines and so forth. but we saw ariel castro making his first appearance before the judge. the initial appearance, the judge reading castro's rights to him, will tell him the charges that he's facing, ask him if he understand the scharges, setting bail at $2 million per charge there. we're waiting to hear if he will enter a plea. he has the right to waive that, however. >> and, pamela, is your understanding the same as mine, so $2 million per that would be $6 million. >> reporter: that's what it appears, zoraida. it appears $6 million. >> all right. let's head over to john berman in new york. >> thank you so much, zoraida. i'm joined by former prosecutor wendy murphy. we're hearing the figure for bail. $2 million per case. i want to know what you make of

a complaint filed in 2005 against ariel castro by the natural parent of his child claims castro brokeose twice, broke her ribs, gave her lacerations, knocked out a tooth, gave her a blood clot on the brain. dislocated both of her shoulders and threatened to kill figueroa and their daughters three or four times that year. she was engaged to figueroa until her death last year. >> she said that any little mistake she make, even if she dropped a plate to the ground he would get so upset he would throw her down the stairs. throw her against the wall. kicked her in the head while she was on the floor. hit her on the head. >> hit her on the head? >> with bar bells. >> that domestic abuse case from 2005 was dismissed. because ariel didn't show up in court and on a crucial day, grimalda's lawyer was not there. cologne was convicted of molesting two of castro's children years ago. he claims the charges were orchestrated against him to deflect from castro's own alleged crimes. he says this about the death of castro's former common law wife. >> she died from the brain aneurysm, all that. >> that

here ariel's uncle tells me the castro family story. >> he was a sweet person. >> reporter: castro was born in a small rural town in puerto rico. his family came to cleveland when he was 6. he grew up on the city's near west side, a working class neighborhood where work was getting harder and harder to find. relatives say ariel was raised by his mother and didn't get along with his father. he dropped out of school in the tenth grade. ariel taught himself to play bass, and he joined a band, playing salsa and merengue in clubs around town. he was popular with band mates. that's where bianca cruz met him as a child. >> i remember going to concerts and spending time with the band backstage. >> friends saw two very different ariel castros, the one who came alive on stage, and the other shy and caring offstage. >> it was always him playing with my hair, him being super nice to me. you wouldn't picture, you wouldn't imagine he'd do something like this. >> reporter: but he could be incredibly violent. in 2005, castro was accused of savagely beating his wife, breaking her ribs, her nose, disloc

ariel castro already charged with kidnapping and rape. he could be facing aggravated murder charges as well for his victims' miscarriages. that's one development we're following in the case. the other one has to do with dna testing. let's bring in susan candiotti, she's there in cleveland. thanks for being with us. what do we know about this dna? who's is it? what is it tracking? >> very important development, chris. hello from cleveland. we've learned from the attorney general from the state of ohio that the preliminary dna tests have come in. and not surprisingly as we expected they do show that ariel castro is the father of amanda berry's 6-year-old child. we had expected that he would be the father. this is what amanda berry has been saying all along. but now there is the forensic evidence to prove it. they conduct a test on the dna. those tests coming in today. they're also telling us, authorities here in ohio, that at this time there is no dna match between ariel castro and any still-open cases in the state of ohio, any unsolved cri

tonight, ariel castro's brothers, pedro and onil castro are speaking out calling him a monster, sayings in that jail. both men were arrested last monday along with their brother. their mug shots were shown repeatedly on television and newspapers. days later they were cleared by police. authorities say the brothers had no connection to the crimes ariel castro is accused of committing. that hasn't stopped the death threats. a lot of people find it hard to believe the castro's own family never suspected anything was wrong over all those years. tonight, pedro and onil castro are hiding in an undisclosed location. here's their exclusive interview with cnn's martin savidge. >> did you, in any way, know, help, assist your brother in the horrible things he's accused of doing? >> absolutely not. no idea that this horrific crime was going on. >> pedro? >> no. >> you know there are people who will say you had to know. how is it possible for so long in that home, your brother, you couldn't know? >> for those people out there, i'll tell you something. i had nothing to do with this and i don't know
