i want to thank cato for organization this event. for national security policy and the future of the united states. and this wonderful speech from 50 years ago, which i think really can guide us in a lot of ways. so i should follow up on what ted said in the introduction, that i'm speaking here as a scholar and of myself. none of this is official. and i'm not only obligated to say that but it's clearly true. i guess the only other thing i'll say about my job is it sounds like the title i'm in the bows of the military industrial complex. the fact that there is an office with this name, the office of industrial policy in the pentagon probably suggests there's something to the concept. it's not -- what we try to do is balance the positive aspects and avoid the negative aspects of the military industrial complex and, i don't know, it's interesting you'll hear through my remarks, you should interpret for yourself what it might mean that someone who thinks the way i do can actually show up in that office. and i can't, you know, go further
