in iraq air power has been effective, it has stalled to offensive in iraq, and we've got to give centcomfor that however, isis in syria is expandinger territorial control, and they own more territory today than they did at the beginning of the bombing campaign. we have a long way to go. jenna: let's talk about the ground troops' aspect of this. we seem of to have a pick hur of ground troop -- picture of ground troops that could mimic what we've seen over the last daled, maybe the range of what we think when we think ground troops is zero ground troops or hundreds of thousands of ground troops. is there something in the middle that could be a good option here? what are the appropriate ground troops that would actually work in our fight against isis? >> that's a great question. in the president's proposal to the congress for the authorization of military force, he posits the fact that we want to defeat isis, and that means iraq and syria. the defeat mechanism for isis is the decisive force is actually ground power supported by air power. so you have to have an effective ground force if you

>> greta, this is the first video we have received from centcom of the jordanian air strikes that beganerday 1 p.m. local time. storage and staging facilities in the town. they included ammunition depots. another two dozen jordanian airplanes were involved in the bombing runs which continued for a second day today. jordan only has roughly 42 fixed wing warplanes in its arsenal. that means that at the current rate, jordan is flying about half of its warplanes on any given mission over syria. the air strikes were centered on hasaka isis capital raqqa. jordanian pilots including females had choice words and a message that they wrote on the body of the warplanes flying over syria today. jordan's f-16s are not, however, striking inside iraq despite jordanian official claims to the contrary because iraq has barred jordan from doing so according to a coalition spokesman. remember, the u.s. provides refueling for jordanian war planes so it is unlikely they would be flying over mosul, for instance without u.s. help. i'm told by multiple u.s. military sources there is no shortage of assets despit

centcom official is revealing new details of a plan to try and take back iraq's second biggest city fromslamic state. that city mosul. as you know it's in northern iraq about 250 miles north and west of baghdad. those isis terrorists took control of mosul last summer. we are told the strategy they are planning to try to take that city back includes 20,000 to 25,000 iraqi troops as well as kurdish peshmerga fighters. that operation is supposed to start in either april or may but the goal they say of trying to retake that city before ramadan which begins in midjune. the u.s. providing training and air support. so far the commanders say officials have not yet decided whether to send in ground troops. as soon as this plan to retake mosul was revealed critics began saying we are basically giving isis a heads-up what we are planning to do while others say putting the details out now may actually intimidate isis and encourage the iraqis to step up their fight. which one is it? john bolton, former u.s. ambassador to the united nations, senior fellow at the american enterprise institute and fox c
