let me go back to chad. chad, you heard what the moi ay said. you heard what ben mcmillan, the storm chaser, had to say. it's not a very pretty picture over there. >> here's our storm chaser, and you can see the eye less than 50 miles from him right now. it's this yellow and orange area that will have that 1 125-mile-per-hour wind gusts. this high has been wobbling around and is headed toward corp us. i still don't believe it's going to miss the center of the eye, the center of the eye will miss the storm. that's great for corpus christi. as the storm moves in this direction, we'll have a back wind and a left wind from the storm, as we call it, backside here, but the front side is going to be through here. that front side is going to be affecting the shore lines, eroding the shore lines with 12 feet of water. 12 feet of water plus waves. when you ride the shoreline completely, some of these islands may not look anything like it. some won't have power for weeks and months. that's just the pirs part. as you know, there's more to come with the rain

i want to go now to chad myers live in the weather center. chad, this storm now a category four storm, serious and dangerous. tell us what difference that makes as it grows in strength. >> for about five square miles, a big difference between losing your roof and losing the rest of your house. but we're only talking about the inner core of the eye wall that will add that gust to 130, maybe gusting to 140 miles or so per hour. we talk about the eye wall is strength. i need you to not pay attention to the eye wall at this point in time. this storm is bigger than that. it's bigger than the number four. it is rainmaker that is not going to move after it gets to san antonio. it is going to stop and sit there over texas for five days and put down a couple feet of rain and maybe even four feet of rain. some astronomical number, four feet of rain. how could that be possible after 12 feet of storm surge washing over the barrier islands there very close to corpus christi. there is our marty savage there. he is positioned right there. there is the eye w

chad myers, thank you so much.he reservoirs on the other side of houston, addicks and barker. the spokesman for harris county and emergency management, thank you so much for being with us. what can you tell us about the status of the reservoirs? >> caller: i can tell you we are monitoring the reservoirs closely. it is a u.s. army corps area. we are working with the flood control district closely to estimate how much water is being released, what those impacts are going to be downstream between west harris to downtown houston. obviously concerned about what that can do. we have been letting rezsidents along that area to know the water rising is very real. we have recommended if they see higher ground, it is important for them to understand that they could be trapped even if their home is not flooded, it will impact roadways. that's something to consider. for a moment, turn away from harris county while i speak for harris county. people listening, it's important to know in brazoria county, the leave vee at columbia l

meteorologist chad myers is also standing by. let's begin in rockport with martin savidge, i see what was a home behind you, awful for that family. >> yeah. it's like this throughout much of this community here. we're in the business section here. so a lot of what you are seeing are actually business, but there are homes as well. and this community took a direct blow from what was a category 4 hurricane harvey at the time it came ashore. and it had a devastating impact not just on the wooden structures, not just on the lighter, smaller buildings, but on concrete solid construction buildings. many of them the roofs ripped off of them. they just caved in. the only lights that are on are the television lights that you see lighting up in the background. you might see headlights, but beyond that there is absolutely no power in this town. not only that there's no power and not just that the power poles have gone down. no, on some streets the power poles are gone. that just gives you an insight as to the depth of destruction on the infr

so, what's the latest, chad? >> reporter: i would say, wolf, right now the western part of the eye wall where the wind is 125 is less than 15 miles from shore. 15 miles from a national sea shore, plus mustang island. there are houses and places of residence and not all that built up. i want to show you here. it's raining all the way from almost new orleans all the way down to brownsville. so, this is not a localized area although we are focused on the eye and where the eye is going. the problem here is we are going to see the wind damage here. we are going to see the flood damage as the storm expands out. it is going to continue to get stronger until it makes land fall. that's not too far away, maybe an hour or two. and then as it gets over land, it likely begins to die off. still a cat 3 tonight, but then by tomorrow probably down to about a category 1. 75 miles per hour. that's over land. that's blowing a lot of things around and still grabbing the moisture off the gulf of mexico and throwing it down as tropica
