the second bill, hr-1446, known as the charleston loophole bill, will tighten up the background check laws to make sure that people don't fall through the cracks, criminals or people who are danger to themselves or others don't fall through the cracks and are able to get firearms without first passing the background check. these two pieces of legislation will go a long way in curbing gun violence. every day 30 people are killed by someone using a gun. if you include suicides and accidental death involving firearms, that number jumps up to 100 people a day. gun violence costs taxpayers 280 billion dollars every year. hr-8, the background check bill is important because background checks work. every day in the licensed dealers where you have to get a background check, 170 felons are stopped by buying a gun. 50 domestic abusers every day are stopped from buying a gun. that's through the existing background check program. it only makes sense if it's expanded, you'll stop even more felons, more domestic abusers. it's bipartisan. there's 210 co-authors in the house and three of them are rep
