. >> you are filling the seat by retiring charlie rangel. what do you hope to build on from his legacy? great the the late and powell and rangel are two legends in congress. these are very big saddam hussein issues to fill. bring energy and insite of what the district wants and the people are ready to turn the page and i think that's exciting. i bring that with me and i hope to be just as good if not better. they have contributed to the nation and to this district and i hope i can bring everybody together again and make things happen. affordability continues to be a major, major hurdle for families. new yorkers find it difficult to make ends meet and stay in the city of new york. >> in the primaries in 2012 and 2014, what lessons did you learn from that? >> that is the lesson from len objection avenue. he shown me a lot. his experience, well known experience. something to learn from. a wealth of knowledge and i look forward to being his ally and he is my metropolitanor and shown me around congress and caulking me around to meet the right peo

protect charlie rangel or get reelected? i have never had to make that decision, but i could not get angry with somebody. because most people who had no election problems were with me. nobody in the congress -- when they hung my picture up, all the republicans were there. former speakers and passed speakers, they all said what a wonderful guy i was, and, even today, no one would ever think about bringing anything to anybody. >> we are talking about the ways and means committee. your picture hangs in the committee room. rep. rangel: they were talking about what a great guy i was. >> what will you miss about congress? rep. rangel: i have already missed -- i don't know whether this comes back in my lifetime. to be able to say that you have a job -- i never looked at it that way. where people said that in this great country we have got to pick 435 people that don't look alike, have different backgrounds, came to this country in different ways, and the only thing they have in common is that they love this country. and they want t
