when the white supremacists marched into charlottesville, i was there with then-governor mcauliffe and our attorney general, denouncing that. i have felt very strongly about that. we still have a lot of issues to work on as we move forward, as i talk about. inequities, inaccess to voting, access to education, health care, the justice system, so we still have a lot of work to do. and i really think this is a good opportunity to talk about that issue, with what has happened this week. reporter: the virginia legislative black caucus -- [inaudible] how do you respond to that? governor northam: i will continue to reach out and talk to them about this issue. again, i want to reinforce, as i was saying earlier, i have made mistakes in my life, but what caused this stir-up yesterday i am not responsible for. that is not me in that photo. and i would hope that all the caucuses and the people of virginia will realize that is not me. that is not who i am. and while i have made mistakes in my past, what started this yesterday is something that is not realistic, and i hope people will realize that.

you go back to charlottesville, you go back to the president talking about immigration, and talking frankly disrespectfully about people from different backgrounds, people that the tps candidates, people from the s-hole countries as he called it. this has become the central defining issues that differentiate the two parties, and democrats want to speak with absolute moral clarity here, you saw it with senator gillibrand when al franken got in trouble. she spoke with clarity. they don't want any mistaking that they are on the right side of the issue. that is a central premise of the democratic party, that is a central point of contrast between the president and the republican party. and i think that's going to continue to be the fact. the best i've seen on this in the last 48 hours has been by governor hickenlooperer of colorado who said, this incident does not sum up who ralph northam is, but as a leader he cannot continue to lead, he has to resign. that's a perfect summary of how a lot of democrats view this situation. >> thank you all, i appreciate the discussion. >>> president trump hint
