the chase ended with a fatal crash. pablo remains closed in both directions.aureen kelly explains how bad the crash was and why the police were chasing that car. >> reporter: this all started a little before 2:30 when a woman spotted two of her vehicles that were both stolen from her home. she called 911. they picked up pursuit of one of the vehicles, a stolen truck but lost sight of it while pursuing here. when officers came around this they saw that the truck had smashed into a power pole. it's that power pole that's leaning to one side. the driver of the stolen truck was found dead on arrival. the crash was so bad that it's not known if the deceased is male or female. the crash knocked out power to nearly 400 residents. he says about 100 of those customers including those here are expected to be without power until the early morning hours. traffic was also tied up because pablo had to be closed in both directions around the access scene for hours. they worked to restore power and several law enforcement agencies and the da's office investigate the crash sce

officers say they had ended the chase before the vehicle crashed.y're not identifying the driver or saying why they were initially trying to pull that car over. the outgoing governor arnold schwarzenegger reduced two prison sentences and issued one pardon. last night he commuted a sentence of nunez, the son of former assembly speaker. he reduced his 16-year prison sentence to seven years saying his sentence was excessive. nunez pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter last year in a fight that killed santos two years ago. the family is upset with the decision calling it sneaky and pure politics. governor schwarzenegger also gave a pardon to a woman sentenced to life in prison for killing her abusive ex-boyfriend. i first met rose parker at the california institution for women ten years ago. parker served ten years in prison before governor greg davis ordered her parole. she abused her ex-boyfriend, a powerful older man. >> my brother came to rescue and i grabbed the gun and i shot. the bullet hit my brother and it hit him. wounded my brother, kill

the chase brought the officers and suspect vehicle on to 880. they exited off of 66 avenue and came all the way down to 85th and san leandro boulevard before the suspect vehicle collided with an innocent driver in this area. thankfully that driver is not injured, as well. >> reporter: and why do police feel it was necessary to fire upon the suspect? >> the passenger of that suspect vehicle exited the vehicle. he was armed with two guns. the officers did engage him and give him some xands. he did not owe way those commands and the officer did fire and the suspect is deceased its. >> reporter: and there is another hitch to this because radio communication went down with your police officers. >> correct. in the middle of all of this, the chase lasted for about ten minutes and for approximately 50% of this, our officers were unable to communicate with the dispatchers. and they're our life line. it's the way that we're able to communicate and order medical and that was severely impacted. >> reporter: this is still under investigation? >> correct. our
