the cherry blossoms are just about at peak bloom. when i step out of the way to show you the incredible vantage that we have at the tidal basin. all 3800 cherry trees are at peak bloom lining the tidal basin. the festival has been going on for the past three weeks. it culminates this weekend with the cherry blossom festival parade happening along constitution avenue this coming saturday. and my goodness the weather just looks phenomenal! if you look closely at some of the trees they're what's called the puffy whi stage. so they are just about at peak bloom. the one thing we have to watch out for is later this afternoon, with the threat with some thunderstorms any strong wind gusts that move through could bring down some of the petals but nonetheless, an absolutely gorgeous looking weekend to get out to enjoy the cherry blossoms. we were talking with folks from the national park service today. they will be doing some guided tours. they have pups and petals so you can bring your dogs out to see the cherry blossoms. make sure you bring

cherry. >> reporter: good morning, nicole. a tragic story. police are planning to charge 41 year-old nila parlor for abandoning her 21 year old quadriplegic son in the wooded area of cobbs creek. they will charge parlor with aggravated assault reckless endangerment and other crimes. the as you can see from the video parlor left her son this this park on monday. the the young man has cerebral palsy, non-verbal and wheelchair bound his entire life. luckily on friday night someone walking in this section found the 21 year-old lying in the pile of leaves. his wheelchair besides him. the his only tools for defense is a blanket and a bible. authorities rushed the young man to chop where he is stable. his injuries include a deep cut on the back dehydration and malnutrition issues. as a result of being outside for five days without food and water. his mother was in maryland where she went to be with the boyfriend. she lied to officials at the the boy's school telling him he was safe with her in mar land. >> this kiddies obviously a fi

we are one week out from the predicted peak bloom of those cherry blossoms. for the star attractions they are not yet on stage. karen is live at the title bay -- garrett is live at the title basin. garrett, what's going over there now? >> reporter: deborah, this one lonely tree behind me is the so- called indicator tree. typically blooms between a week to ten days before the rest of the trees out here. if you wanted to see cherry blossoms this weekend, it was basically your only option. for the last 20 years the average peak blooms have fallen to about march 31. this year we're expecting a solid two week behind the schedule with peak bloom -- weeks behind schedule with the peak bloom not expected between the 11th and the 14th. the latest peak since the clinton administration. in 1993 on april 11. the folks didn't seem to mind too much, mostly enjoying the weather. but i think this woman from michigan really captured the spirits out here today. >> did it dampen your spirits to not have the full effect on your trip? >> no, because where we are from is still kin
