reporting live in san jose, i'm cheryl hurd, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, cheryl. we should note the weather is improving. but the damage there is significant. our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri is with us. and jeff, this is not just impacting mexico. that wet weather is spreading. >> yeah. and we'll talk about those impacts here in just a minute. but i should also say that a category 3 hurricane is not just a strong storm. it is considered a major hurricane. so korea, it's strong for california standards, but on the world scale of things this again was a very potent blow to cabo san lucas. right now it has weakened to a tropical storm. winds at 65 miles per hour. we think it will stay a tropical storm at least for the next 24 hours heading off to the north, slightly to the east. by tomorrow morning winds at 50 miles per hour. so again, continuing to weaken. as we head into wednesday's forecast, winds at 35 miles per hour weakening down to a depression. but here's the problem. it's going to be heading right into arizona. at this point as a tropical disturbance by
