and its protection from the fire's edge to the area of chico. up highway 32 as we get to wilder canyon, wilder road, it was some very steep inaccessible terrain. we've been working on coming up with plans and options to try and work from there up into magalia. earlier this morning we had some active firefighting in the area of magalia and including structure to fence. this afternoon from magalia reservoir, the ridge above magalia reservoir, we did get some good air, were able to used fixed wing aircraft to run retardant along the ridge lines from magalia working down towards the origin of olga. one of the emphasis today was on rescue. we had numerous rescues today while actively fighting the fire in the big bend area. we had to use helicopters to rescue 5 people trapped down there in the area of magalia while we were doing structure to fence. we also had to assist people to areas of safety. thank you very much. evening. my name is alex hune. i'm a senior meteorologist with the national weather service in reno, nevada, and serving as the incident

staging area in chico where several crews have been swapping out. i just got back from a road known as the skyway which is blocked off to everyone but emergency crews right now. several people have been getting turned away because it's just too difficult to drive along. earlier today fire crews were out fighting flames that charred the land along the road. fire crews then went back out to clear up any hot spots. cal fire officials tell me the reprieve of the winds have helped crews to get up to the fire line and actively fight the fire at the edge. unfortunately, they're looking for the winds to pick up again..but in the meantime for anyone driving around the area..emergency crews want people to be safe.
