here's steward and our former chinatown beat officers.stituting just retired after 35 years he wants to come back as a reserve and volunteer his time in the community. leon just retired about two months ago after 40 years of service and we decided to come back and organizes the senior give away. both officers have volunteered and they are coming into the central. tom is in the union beat he's a tough irish cop. he taught at the academy. our next officer here is north beach man fred. we call the richmond district the new chinatown in the 1980's at that time. just being around the tremendous unique neighborhood, and discovering san francisco in the 1980's as i grew up, but i also have been very active as a community organizer. i worked in chinatown, and some first jobs also at the mental health center in the richmond area multi services in the 1980's, and i was also a staff are at the chinatown youth center -- i was also a staffer. a lot of my work has been supporting community empowerment, especially in an immigrant and people of color communities. most recently, i have been teaching at san francisco state. i ran the immigrant rights coalition in the city in the 1990's for several years. i'm also an immigration attorney, and a lot of my passion is supporting in power met for immigrant communities in the city as well. >> why did you choose to live in san francisco? supervisor mar: a lot of people bring this up, but is one of the most exciting, culturally diverse places in the world. learning about new cultures and people from different par

when i think about what is the tenderloin and excels yoir and even chinatown applied for the grant. what is really interesting is they have a high concentration of sro's and all of the things that we have in the mission, but when it came to the educational piece in it we couldn't demonstrate that our kids that live in chinatown were not performing well. it really kind of was a stumbling block for their application. we know that we can do so much better when all of us can get behind our schools and then ultimately have greater outcomes. i always think about the city's role in all of this, as we educate our students, the impact it will have on health care and safety and work force, all the things that are critical for our st e to thrive is so dependent on how we educate our kids. the last thing is i want to really thank our city departments. the efforts around or city department. we have a lot of things that we are doing on a regular basis and we are trying to get out as much as possible to our families that need it the most. i this i that this initiative caused us to pause and to rea

last week, we did the same thing in chinatown north beach with the same contractors also had the ground breaking for 75 units own broadway, samson street and hitting at the affordability to us i want you to pay attention right now there are over 5 hundred 6 thousand - 11 thousand 67 hundred and 25 percent of those are for permanent affordable housing in this city (clapping) >> that's the kind of commitment we're making. you know, some of the stories that come out hey our building all this housing for people who might be, you know, always being a lot more resources then we think san francisco is all about. well, i think 25 percent of the housing is a great story and it reflects our values. we as a city family continue macro it's a great investment for all of our values. we're building consensus for the people and entities that are right here and i must say we've found a way to improve our fire department sfags because they're getting some improvements though the station their appreciative of and again, all the agencies that serve our community. i'm very proud of this project and the cons

we've been holding open houses and the most recent was for chinatown it was transmitted and held on august 20th. those projects are a little bit challenging because there's a lot of coordination with rec and park and planning and they often have other scheduled in mind and other things to address so right now and at this time our team has done is a great job. we've been received well, and it's even on line has think well created. our project at yosemite are progressing. we've had community meetings at sunset and halfway pr we've had 2 hundred and 50 people attend the meeting but for each person who attends the meeting we have 5 people attending online. we're basically simulating the meeting because they're at their consumer and they go through our survey and we've had well over 2 thousand hits. we make those workshops very friendly. there are a longer format but the neighbors can go in and out but the puck and the project and, learn about and get feedback during the meeting or afterwards. we were asked about our monitoring at the last brooeflg. this slide shows where we were monitoring at
