the two car covers chinatown in the financial district. our 3 car sector covers fisherman's wharf and the four car sectors it's our largest sector it covers fisherman's wharf. we have one .8 square miles we have residents but by noon it can swell to over 5 hundred thousands. with chinatown and all the tourists we have 20 thousand rooms and 24 parks in that area. district supervisor is district 3 for the most part. david chiu covers most of the central district and jane kim covers central street. central it's 48 percent female. agencies are 17 and under 5 percent and we have a large senior population of 15.14 percent so we have twice as many elderly then juveniles. we have 11 though 3 hundred and 50 over the age of 65. the district is asian 47 percent, calling your attention is 46 percent and african-american 2 percent. and others 1.3 percent and native american less than 3 percent. those are the central district and this is the central station demographic. we have 2 asian woman officers and male officer we have 26 asian and 5 african-ameri

when i think about what is the tenderloin and excels yoir and even chinatown applied for the grant. what is really interesting is they have a high concentration of sro's and all of the things that we have in the mission, but when it came to the educational piece in it we couldn't demonstrate that our kids that live in chinatown were not performing well. it really kind of was a stumbling block for their application. we know that we can do so much better when all of us can get behind our schools and then ultimately have greater outcomes. i always think about the city's role in all of this, as we educate our students, the impact it will have on health care and safety and work force, all the things that are critical for our st e to thrive is so dependent on how we educate our kids. the last thing is i want to really thank our city departments. the efforts around or city department. we have a lot of things that we are doing on a regular basis and we are trying to get out as much as possible to our families that need it the most. i this i that this initiative caused us to pause and to rea

a project by way of tunnel leading into chinatown by way of north beach.n december the first streetcar was driven into the tunnel. just two years after its berth, muni had added two lines. and k, l and m lines that span out from westportal. in 1928, the j line opened heading west to the beach. in 1944 san francisco voters finally approved muni take-over of the market street railway. by then motor bus and trolley bus improvement had given them the ability to conquer san francisco's hills. after the war most of the street-car lines would be replaced with motor or trolley bus service. in 1947, the mayor recommended replacing two lines with motor coaches. and it appeared that san francisco's iconic cable cars had seen their final days. entered mrs. cluskin, the leader to save the cable cars. arguing that the cable cars were a symbol of the city, and she entered a charter placed on the november ballot. it passed overwhelmly. the california street cable railway was purchased by the city in 1952. there were cut backs on the cable car system and in 1957 only three

i've been going to committee events, our constituents in chinatown, especially those that live in single room occupancy, it's really hard to reach out to them through internet or by mailing maybe. a lot of contra specific education on this population to help them understand what is going on and what are their choices and what department do you have to reach out to these kind of communities? >> yes, good question. we've gone out and made dozens of presentations already to explain the program at neighborhood association meetings mostly around the cities. there is one tonight, in fact. we do have chinese speakers, spanish speakers, people who have some connections in specific communities and we're hoping to do better when we're working with the department of the environment in a more sort of deliberative and targeted structured customer outreach canvassing effort. >> yes, i remember one time i actually translated for one of -- a canvas worker in the chinatown fair. i think it's important to find a bilingual and [speaker not understood] worker to reach out to the community. >> we have those

we've been holding open houses and the most recent was for chinatown it was transmitted and held on august 20th. those projects are a little bit challenging because there's a lot of coordination with rec and park and planning and they often have other scheduled in mind and other things to address so right now and at this time our team has done is a great job. we've been received well, and it's even on line has think well created. our project at yosemite are progressing. we've had community meetings at sunset and halfway pr we've had 2 hundred and 50 people attend the meeting but for each person who attends the meeting we have 5 people attending online. we're basically simulating the meeting because they're at their consumer and they go through our survey and we've had well over 2 thousand hits. we make those workshops very friendly. there are a longer format but the neighbors can go in and out but the puck and the project and, learn about and get feedback during the meeting or afterwards. we were asked about our monitoring at the last brooeflg. this slide shows where we were monitoring at
