history project then became the chinatown history museum. and back in the when i discovered that my chin grandfather, who i did not know growing up because i was estranged from that side of the family, i knew from his obituary that he had an oral history at the museum and all the way back then i was in search of that oral history. i did not get my hands on that oral history until some something years later. but i, i can say i would love to give a shout out to all of the many people who are working in local, particularly archives is for marginalized communities where larger museums are not saving these important archives of individuals who are important to stories. tell if if those young historians did not do that work back then i don't think i could have done, you know, significant sections of this book. so it's a shout out to those folks and. i know that you as well used to work at that museum. am i correct? professor liu? yes, yeah. that was the amazing piece of this was that when i picked up the book and saw mott street as the title i had

ramsey is the same man convicted of attacking oakland, chinatown leader carl chan back in 2021. chan was knocked to the ground at eighth and broadway. though bloodied and dazed. chan took these photos of ramsey, which helped lead to his arrest. since ramsey is mentally ill, the judge opted not to send him to prison. instead ordering him to spend 18 months in county jail and then another 18 under supervision. he had already done his time. i think the entire community, every one of us, we feel so sick about it and we feel so sorry for the victim and their family . it is proof that the system failed. james he should have been in a long term permanent. you know, supportive care facility. kat brooks is executive director of the anti police terror project, which supports alternatives to incarceration. the group at one point had set up a go-fund-me to help cover their costs of putting ramsey up in a hotel. she said no one wanted a house. ramsey because of his assault conviction, the first thing, of course, is concern for the elder, right? like no one is celebrating that and then is mad
