chris, chris, and it does look like the stock market. so pleased with this proposed continuity. yes indeed, the new york stock exchange has responded quite favorably to the news that jerome powell will be heading the fed for a 2nd term. the s and p at peak was up nearly a percent. 43 points. dow jones, about 3 quarters of a point they've since retreated a bit from their high, but this is definitely seen as positive news by investors. we saw that with the banking stocks which rose as soon as the announcement was made. j. p. morgan, morgan stanley rising, nearly 2 percent and pre market trading before the market even opened and that continued has continued throughout the day with them trading hire. why is this investors know what to expect from jerome powell, amid a very shaky economic recovery, rising inflation. he is a known quantity, and earlier this month, the fed indicated that they would begin winding down economic stimulus efforts that were put in place because of the pandemic. back in march of 2020 interest rates were cut nearly to 0, and the fed began an aggressive bond buying program. they've begun scaling back that bond buying and indicating that they'll be raising interest rates. many analyst expect that to happen as soon as this summer, and this as inflation has hit a 30 year high. the consumer price index in october was above a whopping 6.2 percent. so that has been raising concern amid investors. but while they are happy about this progressives in the democratic party are not so happy they were favoring another candidate, senator elizabeth warren from massachusetts for one. they were looking for someone who is more aggressive on issues like regulation and climate change and so on. there was another candidate that bite and appointed as vice chair that they were hoping warren for her part says she will not vote to confirm jerome powell, but he is expected to have the support he needs to serve the 2nd term, the support he needs and the set and he's considered a bipartisan choice. so while the progresses aren't happy, it is expected that he will make his way to a 2nd term. kristen, will you meet with that reaction for us from new york? thanks so much. kristin. wel, that's now bring in claudia sam. she's a senior fellow at the jane family institute and also a former economist with the council of economic advisers at the white house. she joins us from washington, d. c. claudia, as we've been hearing that from chris in the markets. are obviously out, but is that because of less on certainty this morning? what do you think it goes beyond that? absolutely agree. there is the president by made a change for continuity. both in his appointment re appointment. j pallet and also elevating brainer to vice chair. both of them have been instrumental in the past 2 years of fighting the code and crisis. i think that's been released to our street and the certainty of going who leads defense next year. when i say biden's also decided to stick to this norm of keeping the fed chair, even though president trump actually bucks that in appointing power in the 1st place. now, i know he still needs to be confirmed, but he is already getting broad bipartisan support. do you think that reflects a bipartisan approach then to pandemic recovery going forward? so the partisanship pointed to the board by president obama and then elevated by trump chair. so he has already gotten a lot of support from both sides of the aisle.

chris, chris. >> thanks, charles, thanks for having us. reiterate what my neighbor said. fantastic book. it changed the way i handled my money. for years i gave it to a big company, paid a feel. it was unwell ming. read the book to control my own money. thank you for what you did with the investor. if you're 70s, 80s, retire,ed with social security not a huge pension, with bonds paying so little what do you recommend of with high earning stocks? charles: honestly, right now, bitcoin is proving to be a pretty good hedge against inflation. it hasn't had a multicentury test like gold has had but this first major test, it really is proving itself. that is something to consider. you know, i always believe in owning something, even with a high yield that can go up. so i'm looking for yields over, over 4% but also with a stock has a chance to go up as well because right now even though, right now the yield on the s&p is about 1.3%, if you add in inflation you're losing money, which is your point. so find you a high yielding stock also. doesn't necessarily have to be one of these utilities per se where the company itself also has some upside potential. >> you have time for i-bonds, comment on i-bond? >> charles: i don't know. let me get back to you. you know tv guys. we're wedded to the prompter. in fact i'm going to brian. he has a question from the audience. brian? >> so my question is, with inflation flourishing but the government, the government debt in relation to gdp being, i think it is an all-time high with the exception of maybe last year, will the feds be able to increase interest rates while they have this massive debt? >> charles: a fantastic question. by the way, folks, federal reserve right now, it is in a real interesting position. the guy in charge of it, jerome powell may not be in charge of it anymore. he may become a victim of politics where the progressives certainly will not get what they wanted in a spending bill. maybe they will get the federal reserve. it would be unmitigated disaster in my opinion to politicize it anymore than already is. wall street is lookingor two to three rate hikes next year. i would be shocked, absolutely shocked. listen to the bond market. 10-year yield is free-falling two. year is going up. suggesting a much softer economy next year. i don't he see how the fed will hike rates. i would be surprised if they finish the so-called tapering. ultimately to your point if we pay $600 billion a year on interest, interest on the debt that we owe, imagine when yields go up. can we really as a nation afford one trillion? 1.5 trillion? two trillion dollars just on interest? i'm with you. i don't think they hike rates. if they do it will be one and done. that is just my opinion. go to hunter from new york. he has a great question to help us round out the show, which industries do you think will be prominent in the next five years? do you believe in space tourism will be a fad or a long-term i got to tell you something space tourism my mind will be a fraction of that space commerce. some firms are saying 3 trillion-dollar industry in 10 years. it will be much, much bigger than that think about this talking about the cloud, talking about the space, talking about satellites. it will be asteroid mining, defense warfare will be fought up there. living in colonization. space tourism is cute but we'll go a lot more than that for sure. chrisr bought a stock. what should i do with $3,000? well if you're bills are paid, all the emergencies are covered i say have a blast with it. i really would. that is counter intuitive. you can play it close to the vest, not going fishing, maybe do day trading f you start to do this stuff you and your grandchildren will have much better relationship. they will think you're super-duper hip. gary asked, much comment to limit losses after 15 to 20% drops when in fact there are 50% drops regularly in the market which could cause small investors to be whipsawed out of the market. here is the thing, when it comes to stop losses i always say stop and think about why you bought the stock. if you bought a stock to buy and hold because you believe in the long term story and the underlying fundamentals, hold it unless that story changes. if you buy it for a trade, then you want to trade it, that is really pretty simple. people ask me about stops when the stocks are going down. that is not when you as
