. >>> i'm chris lawrence at the law desk with new results with a local presidential poll. the maryland primary is only two weeks away. tonight we have a new nbc 4 maris poll that shows both front-runner with double digits leads. among likely republican voters in maryland donald trump leads senator ted cruz by 12 points, 41-29 with governor john kasich among democrats, hillary clinton has an even lar she is up 58 to 36% over senator bernie sanders with the margin of error at 3 1/2 points. only new york votes between now and ape 26th when maryland and four other states hold primaries. both sides will see a big delegate hall. and among the five states, only one state has more delegates at stake than maryland. we looked at hypothetical general election matchups. it shows both democrats winning easily. clinton and sanders beat all three republicans by at least 17 points. you can get a better look at the nbc 4 washington app. >>> our poll also shows maryland's senate race will likely go down to the wire. congressman van holidayen has a six point lead over congresswoman donna edw

we begin with chris lawrence at the live desk breaking down our new senate poll numbers. chris?>> yeah, jim, we've been digging deep near the numbers to find out what's behind these poll results. first, there is a clear gender i chris van hollen has a clear advantage among men. getting half their votes, while donna edwards is at 34%. among women, voters are split with, both candidates getting about 40%. there's also an age gap driving the support. van hollen has got a 10-point lead among voters 45 and older. and he and edwards are splitting the young vote with, each getting about 39%. but veteran pollsters say neither candidate should feel all that comfortable with any of these numbers. only 53% of the democrats polled say they strongly support their candidate. leaving 31% to only somewhat support van hollen or edwards. and take a look at this last number. full 14% say come election day, they may change their minds and vote for another candidate. and when it comes to race, van hollen is ahead among white voters, while edwards is leading with african-americans, if you want to tak

chris lawrence is in the newsroom with more on that. >> ted cruz tried to brush off boehner's comments calling the former speaker trump's texting and golf buddy. boehner told the crowd he has friends on both sides of the aisle. he says he gets along with almost everyone, except cruz. boehner said he never worked with a more miserable s.o.b. cruz went on stage to dispute those comments. >> i've never worked with john boehner. truth of the matter is i don't know the man. i've met john boehner two or three time in my life. if i have said 50 words in my life to john boehner, i would be surprised. >> donald trump is also in indiana. he brought some star power to a rally. bobby knight came out to stump for him. he thinks tuesday night changed the map. if he wins indiana, it's over. trump is on track to break a record for the popular vote. in the newsroom, i'm chris lawrence. >>> well, in the district today city officials say they are retesting all 113 public schools after some minor amounts of lead were found in some drinking water at two of those schools. officials want to reassure parents

chris lawrence has a closer look at the potential pitfalls coming up at 6:15. >>> a young man dead. police trying to find out who killed him. neighbors say it is only one of several frightening events that have happened at the centerway park in montgomery village area recently. >> reporter: police say that that latest incident happened right here in this parking lot not far from where parents park their cars to bring their kids to that playground there, which they're determined to try and do what they can to make their community safer. it's a community park where kids usually come to play, but on sunday night just after 10:00 centerway park turned into the scene of a murder investigation, which continued into early monday morning. >> it's sad, and it's worrisome. >> reporter: montgomery county police say 18-year-old oscar benitez was brutally assaulted in this parking lot. >> investigators are still talking with those who were present at the time. some people transported him to the hospital. and there was also two other injured parties there at the scene as well. >> reporter: but so
