. >> abc 7 news reporter chris reyes has the story live where the home bound commute is under way. how it is going? >> good afternoon. we've been watching people stead i had streaming into the station. you can expect it to go from this which is okay to bad to worse hour by hour. with so many commuters forced to ride the bart this morning, they saw an extra 10,000 commuters. 10,000 extra commuters are expected to night. a bart official had a word for riders and we spoke to some of the hucky ones wlucky ones thato get out of the city. >> what riders are expect to see is longer trains. more ten car trains than they're used to seeing in the evening commute. we want to put out a word of warning though. the system is going to be crowded. those systems are already at capacity during the evening commute. you should also expect metering and what that means is sometimes we ask that our riders stay behind the fare gates until the platforms can get cleared. >> this is the calm before the storm. this is the time i oftentimes if i can get into the train between 4:00 and 4:30, it's not too craze

chris reyes is live at a rally in san carlos with details. chris? >> reporter: well, understandably, everybody has gone home, kids have to eat. but about an hour ago this street right here was full of students and teachers and parents all rallying in solidarity with six other school districts across the peninsula. they're part of a parent-led group called stand up for public schools. it started on facebook. at the heart of their demands, the disheartening statistic that in one of the most expensive places to live in the world, the per-pupil spending is one of the lowest in the nation. parents, teachers and students rallied in san carlos, hoping their collective voices will force the governor to increase public school funding. >> the state is intentionally underfunding public education, and that's how it feels to us right now. we're the fifth largest economy in the world, not just the country, but our statistics are dismal. >> reporter: this grassroots group led by parents began organizing earlier this year, concerned about the announcement of school

abc7 news reporter kris reyes has been following the story and joins us live with the latest on this investigation. chris? >> good evening, ama. 74-year-old john getreu was arrested this morning by san mateo officials. he barely said a few words and appeared for less than five minutes here inside the san mateo courtroom. outside the courthouse, the d.a.'s office did speak to us and told us that both counties, santa clara and san mateo are determined to work together for a swift verdict. >> the clock is ticking. mr. getreu has not been held to account for decades for these crimes. so moving them as quickly as we can through the system is i know the priority of both counties. >> thursday morning, the san mateo sheriff's office issued a warrant for getreu's arrest for the murder of 21-year-old janet taylor. getreu was already in custody in santa clara county. he was arrested last year in connection to the murder of 21-year-old leslie perloff. the two murders happened one year apart in the '70s. >> the suspect's m.o.s were very similar and both victims were last seen leaving the stanford campus area before t
