and joining me now is cnn chief international correspondent christiane amanpour.ou got this exclusive that claims to have evidence that the assad regime is torturing prisoners. tell us exactly what you have. >> jake, we've been reporting for years on the casualties on the battlefield. this evidence is the first that shows that there is systematic, torture, and killing of prisoners. so in a controlled environment, the panel is made up of very distinguished war crime tribunals, a forensic scientist, both american and british. and i asked them to go through the images of what they have seen. for instance, figure number one shows a horribly emaciated figure. as one of the people say this is like the nazi camp in world war ii. >> this is a person who has, in essence, been starved. you can see, quite clearly, how prominent the ribs are and loss of muscle mass. this is somebody who has been really starved. >> the other pictures show equally horrendous images. there's somewhere people have been absolutely beaten. i mean, their whole bodies, not just really thin but they h

russian president dmitry medvedev sat down with an interview with christiane amanpour. he largely downplayed the danger and reassured the world that russia's security forces will keep the winter games safe. >> with respect to threats on public events, there are always some threats. not only this country but also in others. in this country, they have some specific nature and consequences. definitely we are aware of that. and we will take that into account during the olympics. >> let me just ask you to be specific, the russian security forces, the government has sent out alert about a specific so-called black widow who may have penetrated even the ring of steel around sochi already. and hotels are being told to look out for this person. flyers and posters are being sent around. given the amount of security that you've put in place, how is it possible that this could happen so close to the games? >> translator: you know, we are very a very tough struggle against terrorism. this is the reality of our life of today. and all those threats, including the ones you have mentione

christiane amanpour received a report from war crime experts and they say that they've found direct evidenceture and killing of prisoners in syria but the syrian regime. the photos are horrendous, if you look at them. fred, what's the reaction, if any, from damascus to these latest assertions? >> reporter: wolf, we haven't been able to get any reaction. most of the reason is that most of the media is on the way to gentlem geneva or already in geneva. there are a lot of people here in the government controlled area that support bashar al assad. they are afraid of what will happen after bashar al assad. but one thing that you notice is that people against assad and for assad always tell you that the system in this country is absolutely awful. there are people against the government, people who support government and usually get out of jail and usually without looking a lot worse than when they came in. one of the things that we hear from people on the ground is these photos that we're seeing on cnn are absolutely awful. i don't think that they necessarily surprise people here in the country be
