but now we'll get an update on the big mess on i-78 from christine maddela. >>> good morning to you, bill. this is on eastbound 78 here with emergency crews on the scene. and this camera is right at exit 40 at 7:37 out here but all the eastbound traffic is backed up because all the lanes are closed. the westbound traffic is slowing down as well and all the westbound lanes are open but you can see this long line of vehicles here that are taking a look at that accident. now, here's an update from twitter. it's a multi-vehicle accident. we also made some calls to a tracker trailer and car involved in this accident on 78. it's actually eastbound. they sent out an update between exits 45 and exit 40 so all lanes are closed out there. that's just something to be aware of. a little closer to the philadelphia area on the schuylkill expressway we'll take a look at the drive times here. we are not seeing any major delays except for the incident on interstate 78. 12 minutes is your drive time eastbound from the blue route to the vine. about the same heading on the westbound side. if you are hea

it's friday eve. >> friday eve is what she calls it. >> here's christine maddela. at's right. this is the time of morning when things start to slow down out there in the normal problem spots. i-95 is starting to slow down. especially on that southbound side. our usual area is where we can see the usual suspects where you can see the volume start to increase. interstate 76 another problem spot. you can see those brakelights out there as volume increases both on the eastbound and westbound sides. so as you make your way out, be aware there are some delays starting to form out there. we'll take a look at your travel times in just a second. on the bridges, though we are expecting a bridge opening on the burlington bristol bridge. whenever a bridge opens, all traffic stops. so be prepared within the next half hour or so. the burlington bristol is expected to open stopping traffic. all other bridges are clear. travel times on the schuylkill expressway eastbound from the pennsylvania turnpike to the vine. that's going to take you about 29 minutes. 31 minutes southbound on

christine maddela is here. >> peco crews are in germantown pike. there's no good a way to navigate around this and it will be problematic. at this hour there's not too much volume with more cars than earlier this morning, but because there's all of the peco crews out here working to repair the utility pole. if it was hit by a car earlier, this is the residual damage with the low hanging wires. that's why crews will be there for quite some time. as we take a look at the map, i want to show you which section of germantown pike has on one westbound lane. the cars are navigating around the peco crews. a few eastbound lanes are open but peco will be closing lanes in each direction. so you are going to have trouble getting around that. on the map here you see the realtime traffic data. those are the cars slowing down here. this section of germantown pike is hallow well road and pleasant road. that's the section where the peco crews are working to repair those utility crews. so just be aware if that's part of the morning commute. another crash we're watch

first alert traffic reporter christine maddela monitoring the impact. >> well, the reason it takes so long. another tractor-trailer has to come in and unload everything that tractor-trailer was hauling on to another vehicle. and then they can move it out of the way. you can see, this was last night when sky force 10 was over the scene. that's not even a rush hour. we are keeping an eye on this and the potential implications for the morning rush. taking a live look out here. and i know this isn't the best camera, you're looking through trees. but you can see there's a tow truck over there and an overturned tractor-trailer. so those crews have been working throughout the overnight hours, trying to get this out of the way. but for now, it's still out there, it is still blocking lanes, traffic is being detoured on to the 5th street exit. i'm going to keep an eye on this as we head into your morning commute. elsewhere, interstate 495 just across the border. things are looking pretty good out there. we're not seeing any major delays on interstate 95. the schuylkill expressway or 476. gettin

let's check in now with christine maddela watching the roads and the fog, right, christine?'s right. let's start in the garden state, i-295, the turnpike and the 42 freeway all looking pretty good. but if you head down the shore, watch out for dense fog and limited visibility. you can see just how dense that fog is there. watch your speeds. chris? >>> philadelphia international airport now has approval to extend a runway in an effort to attract some larger planes. officials gave the go-ahead to lengthen that runway by about a quarter mile and to add taxiways. the project will cost about $85 million. work should be complete by 2017. now, right now there are no runways at the airport that can accommodate the larger planes. the goal is to offer direct flights to places like tokyo and shanghai. to learn more about the project, you can just use the nbc 10 app on your smartphone or tablet. >>> well the price tag of an education at penn state is in limbo this morning. next the one thing that school's president says needs to happen to keep tuition from going up. >>> plus making love

nbc10 christine maddela watching hundreds of traffic cameras for problem spots. what are you seeing? >> the cold will be the problem if there is any rain or precipitation. it has a chance to ice over. 422 at pennsylvania turnpike. the overturned tractor-trailer is still out there. they're trying to right that. that is causing some problems. in the headlights you can see that precipitation. be careful, because if it looks wet, it has the potential to be ice and not just rain out there. so, you can see elsewhere on 422, things are starting to back up for your afternoon commute. farther north take a look here at interstate 78 you can see limited visibility out there and some slushy conditions on the roadway. so, just be careful as you're traveling through our area. there are some delays. that's going to be worsened by the weather conditions. jim? >> stormforce10 patrolling the roads for you on interstate eastbound near gerard avenue. count on nbc10 and first alert weather to keep you updated as conditions worsen. >>> as this multifaceted winter storm bears down on o
