this was where 20-year-old christopher michael-martinez died. this is the scene this morning outside the deli, a growing memorial of flowers, pictures and tributes to martinez. police say he had just walked into the store when he was shot. some of the students stopping by to believe mementos say they're stunned at how suddenly life can be taken away. one of the lucky survivors returned to the scene. sierra said she was just 10 feet from rodger when he aimed his gun at her and fired. the bullet missed. she said she feels blessed to be alive. she's going home to san diego to recover from the trauma and may not return in the fall. >>> a former friend of elliot rodger is coming forward, trying to shed light on the killing rampage. he says even in high school, rodger was a loner. >> it wasn't normal how quiet he was. he really -- he said, , you know -- he would only speak when spoken to. even when you'd speak to him, those words he would say would be -- he was really soft-spoken and he would say one word answers, just to answer your question, but he
