i'm chuck todd. as covid cases rise, the biden administration is struggling to sell and implement the vaccination soft mandate. as early as today, the senate is expected to pass legislation that would attempt to revoke the white house's vaccine and testing mandates for private sector workers. at least two moderate democrats are expected to join with all republicans to pass that bill. the white house told reporters president biden plans to veto the legislation if it actually reached his deck. it comes as more than a few prominent democrats in congress and one at the state level, a couple governors, appear to be souring on similar vaccine mandates. the administration is facing another legal setback as a judge blocked the president's mandate for federal contractors. right now all three of biden's vaccine mandates for federal contractors and healthcare workers and private employers have been temporarily blocked in the courts, in most instances, the judge responsible was appointed by president trump. it's

news in washington, the longest running show in television history, this is "meet the press" with chuck todd. >>> good sunday morning. we're going to, of course, get to the spike on covid cases, the battle over mandates, my interview with the secretary of state about russia and ukraine in a moment. we'll begin with the series of tornadoes, more typical in the spring, very rare in december, erupted overnight on friday, causing horrific damage and loss of life. all told, these tornadoes touched down in six states in the nation's midsection. one tornado alone was said to be on the ground for an estimated record 200-plus miles, cutting a shocking path of destruction through several states. most of that journey was in hardest-hit kentucky. the worst of the damage occurred in the kentucky town of mayfield where a twister hit and destroyed a candle factory used as shelter by scores of people. dozens are feared dead there alone. >> we did a -- the lights went out, and then we did a rock, rock, rock, boom, and everything fell down on us. >> i'm looking at the trees and everything is completely sawed

longest running show in television history, this is a special edition of "meet the press" with chuck todd. >>> good sunday morning and a merry day after christmas. when republican glenn youngkin won the governor's race in blue virginia, the second most important issues to voters according to the exit poll was education. for many of youngkin's voters, education was code for something called critical race theory or crt for short. it's an academic concept about racism being embedded in law, policies, and society, and it's come to mean different things to different people these days. to many african american parents, crt represents a long-overdue reckoning with america's racial history and how it's taught. conservative groups have campaigned against crt, and to many white voters it's been seen as a way for white children to be ashamed of their race. the result has been loud and angry demonstrations, raucous school board meetings, the dismissal of school administrators, and state laws banning the teaching of critical race theory. today we're going to take a look at the debate over not just crt

news in washington, the longest running show in television history, this is "meet the press" with chuck todd. >>> a good sunday morning. we're going to take a look at the supreme court abortion case from two perspectives today, the practical and the political. what was clear from the arguments this past week is a six-vote majority is ready to uphold mississippi's abortion ban at 15 weeks before viability, but what's still at issue is will the court just weaken or fully overturn roe v. wade. more than half the states will make abortion illegal if it's a full overturn, unraveling 50 years of protection of abortion rights in the country. and abortion rights activists will see that the right to win back those votes can be counted in decades, not years. at the same time there are political consequences as well. the case could actually brighten what is a grim outlook right now for democrats in 2022. the court has long been an energizing issue for republican voters. could the neutering of roe now anger energizing democrats and women in general as we head toward the midterm elections? the abortion d

her testimony to try to figure out how i was going to analyze it, i got to be honest, i was on chuck toddis happened, what she said was so offensive and so ridiculous, it changed my view of the correct way to interpret the laws that apply to her case and here's the other thing. and this is why some people don't like jury trials. juries don't strictly adhere to the law so much as what they do what they believe is right. by the time you heard her testify, this does seem like the right outcome and it's a satisfying outcome in that regard. in terms of the impact it's going to have, it's going to have an impact on other similar cases that are in the pipeline that are going to have a dramatic impact on police reform in our country. >> you pointed earlier, and you just did, to her testimony was a turning point in the case. we saw the outcome of the kyle rittenhouse case where it's dramatic for someone to take the stand, risky move, rittenhouse broke down and people said that was a key turning point in his favor in that case. in this case, a similar thing happened, she broke down, she was in tear
