i'm cierra johnson in for marcus washington. we are tracking the hot weather moving in and the potential for an increased risk of fire danger as we look forward towards the weekend. let's start with meteorologist kari hall. what can we expect for the rest of the week? >> well, we are going to see a wide range in temperatures and we're already seeing that right now as we take a look at san francisco at 64 degrees. you compare that to redwood city where it's 77. the also 77 across the bay over towards heyward and 86 right now in livermore. you can see some of the warmest temperatures there for our interior valleys. you compare this to 24 hours ago. it's about 10 to 14 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time so we're already on track to see that warmer air moving in and now the heat advisory starting up as well as the excessive heat warnings through these areas shaded in pink. where you see the bright pink. that's where the temperatures will be the most intense as we get ready for this high heat. let's go through the temperature

cierra johnson is live this morning with that part of the story. cierra? >> reporter: yeah, hi, marcus. kari has been emphasizing just how dry it's been, how widespread those drought conditions are. and i can tell you this is what a lot of communities here in the bay area look like. just really brown, really crunchy, really dry because we have not seen that rain, and that drought is contributing to one community possibly voting to reduce the amount of water they use. that happening within the next hour. so when members of the santa rosa city council meet for that meeting at noon, they will take a vote on reducing water use the city by 20%. so, just to give you an idea of how the city reached this point where they're in dire need to conserve water. at the end of april the governor declared a local drought for sonoma county. a week later the county declared and asked them to reduce just how much water they could release from both lake sonoma and lake mendocino. this problem has been going on. now, we had a chance to speak with some folks living in sonoma cou

i'm cierra johnson. marcus washington is off. we've been covering this story when it first broke earlier on "today in the bay." the family spoke to sharon katsuda who speaks to us live from the neighborhood in san jose where the shooting occurred. what can you tell us. >> reporter: well, around 9:00 the police officers took down the crime scene tape and allowed people to come back into the neighborhood. the family is actually still here right now. at around 9:45 last night police say two officers were conducting an investigation on toft's drive when it turned into a deadly sideways. family members of the suspect shot and killed by police say they were kept outside of the area and finally got close to the scene this morning about 12 hours later. police say the shooting happened on the street near the house where the suspect lived. his family says it was his grandmother's house. >> during that follow-up investigation, the suspect that they were here investigating presented himself. there was a confrontation. there were some shots f

. >> reporter: cierra, good morning. do you remember when christmas holidays were the biggest shopping events of the year? that is not the case anymore. amazon prime day which is actually two days coming up early next week has now outpaced all of those black friday cyber monday expectations right now are that revenues from prime day could be ahead of cyber monday, that's how far we've come and frankly, this has changed the game for so many retailers that have brick and mortar stores like target, walmart, best buy and cyberspace. all of those companies have their own deals over the exact same dates. prime day started making about $1 billion a year when it debuted in 2015. last year's was more than $10 billion and the company says its amount of discounts is just deepening. here is what a spokesperson told me. >> we had more than a million deals and over 2 million. we worked hard to make sure we could give our prime members even more deals to take advantage of this year. >> reporter: new wrinkles, performances you can strea

. >> want to bring in "today in the bay's" cierra johnson, she's live for us in santa rosa.k at the new water restriction this is and beyond and how it could eventually hit our wallets. >> yes, good morning, marcus. kari mentioned how dry some of the western states are and santa rosa no exception to just how bad, how dire that situation is and because of that extended drought, there's a vote that's taking place later this afternoon that could impact how much water the folks here in the city of santa rosas use. when council meets for the meeting they will take a vote on reducing water use in the city by 20%. so to give you an idea of hows the city reached this point, at the end of april the governor declared a local drought for sonoma county and a week later the county declared a local drought emergency. by may the city's water supplier filed a petition with the state asking to reduce how much water could be released from lake sonoma and lake mendocino. as you can see this problem has been ongoing. it isn't just the bay area experiencing a drought. take a look at these image.

good morning, cierra. where are you headed? >> reporter: i have a list of places i want to travel. we've been out here for several months updating folks on some of the traveling and the ebbs and flows of restriction and i can tell you, there is a little more traffic than we've seen in months. there's a lot more cars whizzing by and a lot more folks going in to catch a flight and the new survey is shedding light on to why. according to a u.s. census bureau survey reported by "the chronicle" more than 1 million adults in the san francisco metro area plan to travel at least 100 miles in the next month. researchers say that is a higher percentage than the state and the national average and these numbers come as more californians as we've been discussing than ever are vaccinating following that mask opening on april 15th here in the state of california. and as many make those plans for trips, pay close attention to your destination. the cdc has issued a color coded map and it shows the risk assessment levels for countries around the world. this map is broken into four various risk level

nbc bay area's cierra johnson is live in san bruno, one city where you can actually get those fireworks, but certainly not the case everywhere. >> reporter: good morning. exactly, laura. well, you know fourth of july is upon us when you start to see these trailers behind me popping up in some of those bay area communities. today is a big day for some of the nonprofits here in san mateo county. that's because it's the first day you can officially sell fireworks here in san bruno. there's a couple of booths set up at the parking lot of this mall. now, we've made a map for you just to let you know where it is legal, in fact, to sell or purchase those fireworks just to give you an idea in addition to san bruno, sales also start this week in pacifica, dublin, newark, union city and gilroy. they will also begin selling their fireworks just a couple days leading up to that big holiday. the booths are all run by volunteers of some of the local nonprofits. the products are all considered, quote, safe, meaning they don't fly or explode. and although these booths are only open for a few days leadi
