we're already an expensive city. residents, visitors, everybody tells me it's expensive to live in the city, not just housing cost, but fees and access to things and i'm very sensitive to that. i want everybody to enjoy what we have. i want to get to the part that we can sustain these things without putting more financial burden on people. i think everybody is being taxed pretty high in our city, whether it's fees or permits or paying for muni and other parking and others. we're at a point where people are kind of sick and tired of being harangued for every penny that they have. with that sentiment, we're trying to make sure that all of our fees and current processes are keeping that in check, that we don't put more burden on the public. and that goes for every agency, whether it's rec and park or muni or the late effort to increase fees that maybe somebody thought hadn't been increased in 25 years adds to everything else. we should try to be more innovative and creative and that is why we're working with technology

i just came back from the international city cities of cork ireland, paris, france. they marvel at how well we have done things here in our great city and keep it going and remake it. they also have a sense that anytime their members come here, they are experiencing a huge amount of warmth from people who serve them. i know the quality of our hotels is one of the main stays of why we are such a really and successful tourist center for all over the world, not just in san francisco or california, but all over the world. these workers who have in past years probably didn't have such smooth negotiations in the past, we are reminded of that through some couple of decades where everybody struggled, but it's quite apropos that we have stressed the important collaboration of talking with people and making sure we understand their needs and necessities early on that not only are they going to have wages but a health plan and pension for years to come. when you have hotel workers, working class people who can take care of their family and themselves and have contributed in the

it is time i think for our city to think more creatively about what city hall can do to support city college . in this time of need we held a hearing of the budget committee last week where we started to think about in-kind support, whether the electricity or water bills, but also in-kind support for elections of the trustees of the college board system. also other ideas for how we can be more supportive. my hope is, after this resolution, i hope that is passed . overwhelmingly here at the board and we can put our heads together i know the mayor and the controller and others also sat down with the former chancellor and others last year at this time to come forward to provide some economic and management support as well. but my hope is that we continue to move after we have acted on this resolution. first that the resolution calls the college to use as much funds to the ballot opposition prop a, to use resources for classroom use and acknowledges is amended that achieving accreditation , is so critical for the institution and a healthy, adequate reserve is also critical. in short the

we work closely with the whole city family. i feel the day was a success. we have people at the city emergency operation center; we had the department operations center open, a lot of planning, all the city agencies, came together to make the day success. we open the subway early and ran extra buses to get participants to the start of the race; we were part of the regional security plan that covered all of downtown including underground stations. we had our pcos and service supervisors deployed to key locations that we could manage traffic on the street and make adjustments on the fly as needed. we get everybody to the race and back using 75 extra buses and extra rail service; we had very little in the way of problems during the day. we always learn things from these events. some small adjustments were made but overall it was a successful day not just for transportation that for the whole city. the event went rather well. finally the last item i was going to note, director heinicke noted, the 2013 biennial report to measure residents opinion on city service
