it was just adjacent to the mayor's office in city hall. and the mayor in those days said, i want the station that's right near my office to be the most beautiful, and show what civic pride is able to produce when you're doing public works projects. so this station had beautiful ornamentation. it has vaulted ceilings. it has beautiful colored tiles. it has leaded glass skylights to bring natural light into the station. it has a beautiful oak token booth with an ornate brass grill in front of it. and it has really, even though they're simple railings, there's a really nice design element to these, they are quite charming. the city hall station was closed because as the trains got longer and longer and there's a very, very extreme curve on this station, which you can see from this photo, and when trains expanded from six cars to 10 cars, there was not enough room for that train to come into this station. and it was not safe, because the curve was so strong, so between those cars there was a big gap to get to the platform, plus the entire trai
