so thank you all very much for coming and visiting us in san francisco city hall. and remember that april 5th, of 1913, they turned the first mound of dirt to build this historic building. and in less than three years, the building was complete. and we opened our doors, december 28th. of 1915. so, hopefully you will all get involved in san francisco city hall centennial celebration. it is truly a magnificent building and it has had many, many incredible individuals serving as mayor of san francisco. and now, we have adolf in the mix here that was once occupied by willie brown, willie brown has moved upstairs. and there is sutro is here. and i think that this will be his permanent place. so, please, enjoy the inscription that is on the pedestal, and the actual bust is incredible. i watched jonas assemble this and polish this on friday. and i was truly amazed. he is truly a very, very talented sculptor who did an incredible fete for san francisco and for san francisco city hall. thank you, again, for all coming to visit us at city hall, please do not be strangers. >>

i'm manager of the tour program as well as i am the historyian of city hall. this building is multifaceted to say the very least it's a municipal building that operates the city and county of san francisco. this building was a dream that became a reality of a man by the name of james junior elected mayor of san francisco in 1912. he didn't have a city hall because it was destroyed in the earth wake of 1906. construction began in april of 1913. in december 1915, the building was complete. it opened it's doors in january 1916. >> it's a wonderful experience to come to a like this. the building is built as a palace. not for a king or queen. it's built for all people. this building is beautiful art. those are architecture at the time when city hall was built, san francisco had an enormous french population. therefore building a palace in the art tradition is not unusual. >> jimmie was an incredible individual he knew that san francisco had to regain it's place in the world. he decided to have the tallest dome built in the united states. it's now stands 307 feet 6 i

we are seeing nightlife more and more under pressure for a variety of reasons and city hall in my viewnd my city government still takes an over reactive view towards nightlife instead of a more balanced view. we know historically what it's meant for our community for young people, four music lovers, for people in the lgbt community. we are at a crossroads and we have to make a choice whether we want to be a city that continues to attract young people here, whether we want to be a city that wants to continue to attract the creative class here, creative whether they are raiders or tech folks. the reason why so many people come is because we have those cultural resources including nightlife. if we continue on the path where we are which is to put continuing pressure on that and making it more harder and more complicated and more expensive for anyone to offer nightlife to our city, we are going to suffer in the long run and we'll become a beautiful and very quiet city and very peaceful for everyone but it won't be the interesting place that it is today. on the san francisco political spect

city and i will articulate from my perspective the priorities and running the budget process in city hall. no. 1 is having a very open and inclusive process. we want to make sure everyone's voices are heard. the decisions are going to be hard. we do have a deficit to cover. however, we want to make sure that we hear from everybody. and we're not only having budget town halls in the district, but we're having online town halls and having meetings in city hall all the time. so having a very open process. second of all, managing our budget in a very financially responsible manner. as mayor lee mentioned we want to plan as spouses for the long haul in san francisco and this is about the long-term security of our city, both in terms of the services we provide and residents that we serve and we want to make sure that the public has confidence that we are managing our dollars and taking a long-term perspective of our city's financial health. and lastly, making sure as mayor lee also mentioned that our budget reflects the priorities of our city, today and tomorrow. the budget more than anything i
