the supervisor matt haney for the city of san francisco is highlighting how other cities are finding ways to help out the federal workers. he says san francisco is not yet step forward. matt haney is the supervisor of the city that represents the courthouse, epa and coast guard with california with the highest impacted workers in this government shutdown. we have 40,000 statewide but is unclear how many are in the city of san francisco but nevertheless, supervisor matt haney wants to help them out including free public transportation and deferring bill payments to the city, parking tickets and payment to healthcare and utilities is included. there is loans for rent or mortgage and food assistance. supervisor matt haney said that when the white house declares the war on federal workers that we must step up locally to have their backs up. we should not be held hostage during the trump government shutdown according to supervisor ma to provide financial assistance to the workers later today. live from city hall in san francisco, kiet do, kpix 5. >>> a 12-year-old boy from southern califor

san francisco. kiet do is at city hall to explain. >> reporter: it turns out that the city of san francisco is not doing anything in the official capacity help out the for load federal workers but that could change due to one supervisor. we are talking about supervisor matt haney with district 6, the home of the vast majority of the federal buildings in san francisco including the epa, department of justice, courthouse and coast guard. we have the largest share of federal workers impacted by the government shutdown in california, 42,000 statewide. it is unclear how many are in the bay area but supervisor matt haney wants to help them out and calling on bart and caltrain's to do the same. they want to help with public transportation, deferred bill payment to the city, loans for rent or mortgage and food assistance. the city supervisor matt haney said that when the white house declares war on federal workers t up locally and have their backs and that the workers should not be held hostage during the government shutdown. matt haney will introduce the proposal later today. live from city hall in san francis

the city of san francisco has come around to embrace it's musicians. nial for city hall, they brought in all kinds of local musicians and i got to perform at that. that was, at -- in a way, and appreciation from the city of san francisco for the musical legends. i feel like a lot of people in san francisco don't realize what resources there are at the library. we had a film series, the s.f. punk film series that i put together. it was nearly sold out every single night. people were so appreciative that someone was bringing this for them. it is free. everything in the library is free. >> it it is also a film producer who has a film coming out. maybe in 2018 about crime. what is the title of it? >> it is called san francisco first and only rock 'n' roll movie. crime, 1978. [laughter] >> when i first went to the art institute before the adventures were formed in 77, i was going to be a painter. i did not know i would turn into a punk singer. i got back into painting and i mostly do portraiture and figurative painting. one of the things about this job here

the reason i purchased -- made a big investment in san francisco is because of you guys, and the city of san francisco helping the, you know the -- the small businesses, basically. this is a pharmacy that sells prescription pills, and that's how they make their money. they don't care if they get their liquor license, sell or not sell liquor license. it's just an addition to their store. they buy in bulk because they're cvs, and they own a lot of stores, and they sell it for a tiny little margins, which drives all of the stores out of the san francisco area. you know once they get their license, every corporate store that wants to apply for a liquor license, every block is going to be a copy of the ones previous to it. it's walgreens and cvs and the 7-elevens of the world. if you want to help small businesses, this is the time to do it. thank you very much. >> chair mandelman: thank you. next speaker. >> i'd like to hand this in to the clerk. my name is michael nolte. i happen to be one of the litigants or protestants for this liquor license. you know, when somebody here sees a posting

city and we often times are a lightning rod for people. people are coming -- there are folks frustrated here and people are coming here from all over because san francisco is doing their part. san francisco is offering their services. that is one of the reasons why the state has decided to get involved. we realize this is no longer a city by city issue. mayor breed can't talk to other mayors, we have to figure out how to do this. everyone in the state has to do their part. one in four homeless people in our country lives in california. one in four. 134,000 people. we have 75 -- we have 7500 people here in san francisco. los angeles has 60,000. think about it. that is not a small town. that is a medium-sized town in california. so the problem is great. it is also a stage that we know we can solve problems. we know if we can build bridges, we can build all these buildings , we can build all this amazing housing and build the economy. we have an economy here in san francisco with 2% of unemployment, we are the fifth largest economy in the entire world in california. there is nothing we feel like we can't do. if we can't find a way to put people in homes, i

san francisco has been my home for over 20 years. the city where i landed my first job out of college in chinatown, working with early care educators, education teachers and providers, and years later, started a family and committed to raising two kids in san francisco. there were long days and sleepless nights, right, keith, when we asked how are we going to handle all of this? can we make it happen? then our daughter started kindergarten which confirmed our commitment to public schools. and during this time as a new sf unified parent, i started working at the san francisco civil rights bay organization. they have a history of fighting for the most marginalized communities. i want to send them thanks. and through my profession life from running youth and family programs in oakland public schools to managing nonprofit organizations to nurturing leadership of immigrant parents across the city. all these experiences have taught me humility and compassion. san francisco is passionate about the power of public education. i'm honored to be part of

san francisco sfo parking lot, hunters point. littlalso is there a need for ay to look at other sites within the city and county of san francisco. some of the land that pc owns outside of the city of san francisco? >> we do look at city-controlled property for development. the sites that are in the next report came from that body of work we have done. we presented the work we have done and they presented it in the report to you. through the professional services consultants we talked about earlier, we use those teams to help us evaluate those sites. it is a process that will continue. we can share with you the prior reports we have done that describe the sites and suitability for development. >> have we looked? have they identified other sites with feasibility? >> off the top of my head i couldn't tell you if there are sited outside of what is presented to you in the report. we can definitely doublecheck. >> since you mentioned this is ongoing and you are looking at sites and possibilities. i know the pc owns property outside of san francisco. san mateo county my have possibilities. we would be interested in being kept abreast of
