we will talk about clark county and just a moment. i also want to highlight georgia because we are going to see trump there today. this is where harris is leading by the widest margin over the former president. she has a four-point lead there. so let's talk about nevada and what you want to see there, karl, because this is obviously going to be one of the states we are watching together on election night. we know obviously 2020 election results tell a lot. we look at the states, sorry, 2020, joe biden, so close, 2.4% margin for joe biden in that state. what are you watching here? >> first of all, remember, this is a highly urban state. we think of it as a western state. 71% of the voters live in clark county, one county, and another 17 live -- if you can pull that up, the county at the top, and frankly, most of them live right here. the rest of the state, about 17%, we used to call what i grew up, part of my childhood up there, the cow counties, now supposed to call them the rurals, the rural's overwhelmingly republican, a battlegroun

but he was able to bank a surplus of about 90,000 votes from las vegas in clark county end he needed why? because you look around at the rural counties, look at the margins that donald trump had 84% 78%, 76%, 75% chest huge margins in the rural. so he banks thousands and thousands of votes in all these rural counties that need to be offset by clark county. now there is one swing county in nevada and that's washoe county out where reno is. you can see the margins here are very, very tight typically, as washoe goes, so goes nevada. joe biden wanted 2016, hillary clinton wanted it just one thing i want to show you. nevada is not big, not a lot of votes, so you're fighting over the same votes in elections can look pretty similar. look at the margins in the presidential race in washoe county in 2050, 0.8 to 46.3. these were the margins in the senate race, 50.8 to 46.3 in washoe county exactly. the same. they're not a lot of votes at steak elections can look pretty similar. one other thing that people know about nevada who follow politics closely they vote early early in-person and early by

sorry, but like nevada, nevada, determined by clark county and the culinary union, which harry reid kind built up. and there was really tension. they didn't want a lot of the latinos in the union, which is not uncommon with unions. they don't want immigrants specifically because they drive down the price of labor and competition. but once accepted that, you know, over half of the culinary now is latino and i talk about this in the book and it has brought pretty consistent since the harry reid era and it made what should demographically kind of a republican state a i don't say reliably because nevada, the one swing state that is more republican, all the others demographically have been moving towards toward a more bluer position. nevada has actually for the past three election cycles become more. and so they're they're holding on to it by margins. but let's talk about unions generally really quickly, latinos have the lowest unionization rate of any of the race or ethnic groups to and it's not that there's like a culture of labor we're also the most likely to in the gig economy and not say

a lot of the mail ballots down in las vegas, clark county, have not been counted yet, and some of the democrats still feel pretty confident that once those returns come in that they'll be doing okay. but even the most optimistic democrats i talked to, stephanie, tell me they think if they win it's a 5,000 or 10,000-vote race here in nevada. it was only 33,000 last time. and then there's a lot of worries because republicans here are doing their thing about filing lawsuits and trying to cast doubt on the election before it happens. if it's super close, stephanie, i think that's going to be very, very dangerous for what happens afterwards. and republicans, stephanie, are even handing out to poll workers these cards that they're demanding they fill out a checklist, including that they didn't see that the machines are connected to the internet. so the more things change, you know what i'm going to say next -- >> the more they stay the same. sounds like it's going to be -- i can't help myself -- a roll of the dice in vegas. >>> tonight when we return, elon musk, as long as we're talking gam

with this number that talks about the firewall is below what its average normally would be in clark countyat are you seeing in nevada that tells you anything about what it's looking like on election day? >> just first, to reiterate something tom said y think the three states of the eight battlegrounds if you include nebraska too, where we're doing really well, and we should be encouraged, are michigan, wisconsin, and in nebraska, sort of overperforming, even sort of the standard of what we're seeing in the other states. which should give us a lot of optimism about what we're going to be able to do in the blue wall states, in particular, if you couple that with "the washington post" polling today which showed the vice president ahead in michigan, pennsylvania, and wisconsin, i think we should be optimistic. we have a lot of work to do. it's going to be really close, but in the other states, the other five states, it's going to be a dog fight. it's going to be -- the republicans, as tom said, have pushed some of their vote >> yeah. they don't have a ground game, tom. that is the other piece

in the last two days in clark county in nevada, for instance, where las vegas is, we have seen higherast two days than we have seen at any other point this cycle. in michigan, 145,000 voters voted early yesterday alone. >> you worked for the late senator harry reid. i wonder what you make of the turnout there and in michigan? >> i think this is my eighth cycle. i think observing first elections in nevada. i have been through this a few times before. i want to zero in on what jen said. she focused on people who don't usually vote. that's one of the positive signs for democrats. it's not just about turning out people in the early vote. if you're just turning out voters who vote on election day, you're doing what's called cannibalizing your election day vote, and i think there's some of that going on with republicans. this is the first cycle, especially in nevada where the company has emphasized voting, without contradictory messages from donald trump. you have a lot of people turning out in the upstate places in the rural counties in nevada. what we think is happening there is those are

the snroarts clark county have shot down light rail and tolls every time it has been on the ballot. we cannot let the federal government say we give you some money so therefore you are just going to have to accept light rail. that's a great deal for oregon. my opponent, her business interest is over on the portland side of the river. the light rail and the tolling is a great deal for portland. it is a horrible deal for washingtonians. we need to make the improvements necessary to keep the historic bridge safe and secure and that needs to be a local bridge between portland and vancouver and then we need to do the federal government to do something radical which is actually prioritize american citizens and interstate commerce. unfortunately for over a decade we have ahead oregon and washington fighting over table scraps while the federal government says sorry we have a couple wars to fund in corporate interests to pay. absolutely not. this is about priorities. let's get the federal government to do something the federal government is supposed to do. build us a third bridge that allevi
