claudine wong is busy and you are out there along soda canyon road and they are there to give them some more answers, claudine? >> i want to give you a look at what is still burning and embers are still burning and there is a little bit of hot spots. if you pan over, i want to show you, you see that tree, that happens a lot with eucalyptus trees and they became crashing down with very little warning and they do not want to send crews down above as well as the danger below. they have been fighting this fire off of soda springs road and soda canyon road and this is what it looks like, firefighters came out here about 60 of them right away and they hit it from the air and from the ground and they got most of it out in a short amount of time but it did make things difficult. we showed the embers still burning and it was on the hillside along the grove where all of this started. they believe this started with power lines and that sent the power lines down and high winds fueled it on the hillside. if you come here we can show you a little more about the area we are in. this is a place which u

claudine wong is in oakland this morning. and has new information the search for suspects continues claudine. >> reporter: that is right, pam. we are at the jackson street onramp to interstate 880 northbound direction. because this is where it all happened. there were shell casings found along that onramp and up on to the freeway where the two victims were found dead. a lot of physical evidence was found out here that is why they were shut down for so many hours. let's take you through what we know. there is a press conference held just an hour ago. just as you said the warriors game was just getting out. it was about some kind of collision and an ambulance was on route. then six minutes later oakland police got a call into their dispatch center about shots fired and an argument in the area. then as the first chp officers got on the scene, on interstate 80, they quickly realized they had much more on their hands. >> this is a preliminary investigation. what we know so far there was a white porsche either entering the freeway h

claudine wong is live in danville where the search is in full swing this morning. >> reporter: good morning. take a look behind me and you have the command center that has been set up all night here. this is the sheriffs search and rescue team that was called out at 9:00 last night. they've had vans and tables set up. this has been the starting point for dozens of search and rescue folks as they looked for madeline and they have been searching for her since about 6:00 last night. they are telling us she is an at risk teenager and they are hoping to find her but they have not been able to find her now. they are going to suspend the search for a couple of hours. they are not stopping the search but they will take a break because of essentially resources are stretched thin. and they are worn out. we did just talk to the search manager about the overnight search and here's what he had to say. >> i had perhaps 45-50 searchers out in the field tonight on various assignments and locations. both urban and suburban out in the fields. high probability locations. >> but no sign of her? >> no. not at t

we begin with claudine wong at the west open b.a.r.t. station, and you have new information about what type of vehicle was involved in the crash? >> reporter: that's right. we know this accident happened between 2 and 3:00 this morning in the transbay tube. we're now being told that one of the vehicles involved is what's called a rail grinding machine. it's a big piece of machinery that goes along the tracks and basically smooths them down. it got into an accident with another vehicle and that's what caused the mess we're dealing with this morning. we've seen people still heading up here. we've heard people say some got here earlier. some hoped it might move more smoothly but there are delays. we've been on the platform and seen trains sit there for 20 minutes at a time. it's stopped at different points. tara moriarty has seen that along her travels along the b.a.r.t. route as well. the problem is is that the repairs take a while. you've got almost 400 feet of track that needs to be repaired and they've been working on it for hours. ther

. >>> this time it is worrying people who want to walk or ride across the bridge and claudine wong has concerns and the rate to open the span on time, claudine? >> reporter: adding one more problem to the pile of problems on the bay bridge span and from what we can see from our vantage point, we can see crews working all along the span getting work underway this morning. what is on the table because we will talk about the problems. let's take you through the big ones, first we know a fix is underway for the 32 bolts that broke in march. engineers decided they needed a steel saddle and i want to show you video of work which is already underway. we don't know how long that solution will take however we don't know about another batch the bolts, 200 which came in a different shipment and the question is, will those break too, even though they have not been tested and we should learn. >>> high streaks cable issues and there was water in ducts where cables were kept. now let's about it because bolts were welded too tight and did not allow for expansion when it got hot and those were sheered

claudine wong live in oakland with important new details about those victims. >> reporter: that's right. i've been talking with investigators this morning and as they put the pieces together in this investigation we're getting a clearer idea of what happened. we are on the onramp to interstate 880. this is jackson street and originally thought the shooting may have been happening here because there were shell casings on this onramp. now police tell me the shooting did happen on the freeway. they believe someone in another car opened fire on this as it was driving up the interstate. it was about 10:30 last night. the warriors game was just getting out, so there was a lot of traffic on the freeway. that's when the first calls came in to the chp about some kind of collision with an ambulance coming. then a few minutes later oakland police, their dispatch got a call about an argument and shots fired. both agencies responded to the scene, and that's where they found two people in and near a white porsche that had been shot. the driver found dead in the car, the passenger found dead on the fr

claudine wong is joining us, another fired flared up last night? what is going on claudine? >> reporter: i spoke to the fire department and they are relieved the winds have died down and they have had a long strep of multiple fires and they are waiting to do some -- stretch of multiple fires and they are waiting to do some work on this fire. there are multiple hot spots we can tell you about but this is a eucalyptus grove and you can see this grove right here and that makes firefighting dangerous because they are not sure if the trees are so unstable they will fall on them. so what they are doing is looking for daylight to get down there safely. it was around 6:30 when the fire came in and it started at the bottom of the hill but the wind was blowing so hard it made its way up the hill. it took 90 minutes to contain in and they are still dealing with the hot spots and they have sort have been in a holding pattern. we walked down the road a little bit further and they are able to show you some of the hot spots and if you take a look at the trees and the video, you may notice

ktvu's claudine wong is on yerba buena island right now to tell us what is going on and what's ahead for caltrans later today. claudine? >> reporter: well, this meeting today will give us an update on really all of the problems facing the new bay bridge project. i want to give you a look from yerba what main -- yerba buena island. when you talk about these problems, still a lot of unanswered questions. it still could have an effect on where this project stands in terms of cost and schedule. so we're waiting for a couple of things. first we're gonna get an update on the testing and monitoring on the remaining bolts of the bridge. 32 broke back in march. they were part of a batch of 96. there was another match we've been talking about of some 200 other bolts and rods that came. it's still unclear if those will be addressed in terms of are they a problem or not? if they are, there will be a lot more work and the answer remember, the bolts are embedded, can't be taken out, can't be replaced. so the engineers put a steel saddle over that section. that's what's happening now. we should get

ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong is live at the school on ocean avenue. she spoke to the woman who helped police make the arrest. what did she tell you, claudine? >> reporter: well, she talked about what she heard when police brought one of the suspects in custody. certainly, she said it scared her quite a bit. we're out in front of the high school. behind hee you can see -- a this point, the school is getting started as business as usual. it was after 3:00 this morning that neighbors saw apparently two suspects trying to break in. they called police and ktvu got on the scene just a short time later. let me show you what they saw when they got on scene. police making their way in and around the high school. the neighbors spotted those two suspects kind of going in and out of the school and it's all locked up. obviously, they knew something was wrong. they called police, police got on scene and one of the suspects tried to get away by going in through the backyard of one of the homes in the neighborhood. it's when the neighbor saw that person or heard a rum
