state attorneys general in force the sherman and clayton acts as well as their own state antitrust laws. some of which like i was which seems to be the state of the hearing, predate the sherman act. many state constitutions like tennessee treated monopolies with contempt. the earliest challenges to monopolist the practices were brought by state attorneys general who learned early on the virtues of many hands making light work and bipartisanship which became the foundation of the national association of attorneys general in 1907. my former role as the chairman of the multistate antitrust task force was helping states working in this process through negotiation and discussion to achieve the best results for the citizens of our states. in fact, i often compared myself to senators schumer and mcconnell, besides her obvious resemblance, when leading cases i would cajole, discuss, and bear witness to my sister states plaints. we often take for granted a difficult this kind of multistate consensus can be. as the attorneys general have to put it mildly, widely varying views. even more important
