. >> clayton sandell sat down with a child psychologist after the vegas shooting and got advice that talk to your kids about these. >> one of the things we wanted to do today, something i've been struggling a little bit with in light of the shooting. one of the things i've been struggling with is how to talk to my own kids. so as a parent, where do you even start to talk to a kid about these kinds of things? >> that's a great question. i think you begin by starting the conversation, period. by just opening it up. by not pretending it didn't exist. you can at least begin a dialog. we would begin in our own house, by asking what have you heard? what's going on, and what do you think? >> what do you think. >> because then you have a chance to intervene as a parent. we see highlighting of good. and that's what i would recommend for kids. even older teens who may become afraid. there's an enormous amount of heroic behavior, the first responders, the hospital staff. the bystanders who intervene to help out and to people donating blood. that heroic behavior highlights the good in people and
