clint has been working the phones, clint vanzant, former fbi profiler, nbc analyst, cl t clint, you do have more information? >> i do. my challenge is the same as pete's, that this information as you suggest is changing rapidly. as of about 15 minutes ago, chris, there were two different reports coming in. one indicated the gunman had barricaded himself inside of a room or office either on the third or fourth floor. the second report suggested law enforcement tactical teams had the lone gunman trapped between the third and the fourth floor. that would suggest perhaps in a stairway leading between the two. should either one of those be the case, law enforcement is in a much better situation. they could bring in negotiators and try to talk him out. they could introduce gas, tear gas into those locations and try to flush him out. but the last thing they want to do is to provoke another armed confrontation. if they have him isolated in an area in which they're in control. >> and you would think at this point possibly, given the fact that there were so many people, clint, who saw him and th

i want to bring clint back in. our updated information is at least seven victims and two of them uniformed. one in a d.c. metro officer. a base officer likely the first person that confronted and tried to stop this gunman. the good news is no fatalities have been reported at all. hopefully that will continue to be the case. they have their perimeter set. >> we hope that's the case and continuing with violence and at least three different choices that employees and any civilian government building has in a shooting situation. that's usually the best way to get out of that building and that facility. run and get away. shelter in place, lock your door and get under your desk and put your phone on i have brit and hunker down and hope that guy doesn't come in. number three is just like we saw. there comes a time where there is no other choice and you have to fight back. i know this guy has an ar 15 allegedly and that's a very heavy caliber weapon. if there is no other choice, you get two or three people and you get the

clint van zandt has been standing by. i understand you were also listening to the news conference there from cathy lanier and mayor vince gray, clint, at this point in terms of the investigation, what is law enforcement going to be focusing on right now? what's the first order of business? >> well, to me, one of the first things they have to determine is do we have one, two or three shooters? again, we keep hearing this information about this second and third person. pete williams i think rightfully so suggested earlier there may have been a misidentification or they may have counted the same person twice. but now the police chief one more time comes back and tells us the potential of three. so i think law enforcement has got to work very hard with the known shooter and find out who his known associates are, especially the last 24 to 48 hours, see if they can link anything to him or have any physical evidence that suggests there's something more than a first shooter. obviously if there is, we have two more bad guys out th

let's go back to clint van zandt. i want to ask the same question i asked of the colonel, after somebody is on the job and been shot, what is the mental road back for them? >> well, we hope there's a road back for all of them. but, you know, many times people just either cannot return to work or at least they cannot return to the same place where they were shot. now, some of these were military personnel and you know, you get paid for going to war and get paid to get shot at. not in an office building in washington, d.c. though, and that's the big difference. so that's going to be a challenge. there are going to be counselors available but realize when we talk about post-traumatic stress reaction, you don't have to get shot just to experience that. you can know someone who got shot or know someone who worked down the hall. there are 3,000 people in -- who work in that area and i would suggest a lot of them may have a hard time coming back again when you've got crews that are going to be in there overnight literally cl
