tim is a cnbc contributor.o watch among the two factions at work here. obviously, president-elect trump weighing in saying he is in favor of the h-1b visas proposals and plans. does that end the debate at this point? >> probably not. probably still some grumbling. anybody in politics who has been watching this coalition that trump built the past year to win the white house, suspected there would be this kind of jam-up at the end. the tech industry is dependent upon the high skilled labor whereas others in the country feel like immigration, any kind of immigration, he essentially, is taking away american jobs. so, really these two camps are heading toward collision. i think what's surprising is kind of the level of tenor of the outburst and how excited elon musk got and how vocal he became in defending that position. clearly very important to him. remember, he is an immigrant who became a u.s. citizen. clearly out there swinging very hard going after that program. >> you know, the tenor on the other side of the

cnbc confirmed that this was 50-year-old brian thompson, the ceo of united health care.runs a unit of united health group, one of the largest companies in the country, 375 plus billion dollar in revenue in 2023. the company was holding -- was going to hold its investor day today. it was canceled immediately upon this incident happening in midtown manhattan. to underscore the shocking nature of this, it's one of the busiest places in the entire city when the christmas tree here at 30 rockefeller center is about to be lit. tons of people in the middle of the city as this apparent murder took place. police did not specify whether or not this was or was not targeted. there's reports that it was not random violence, that thompson was targeted. that's unconfirmed from nypd. a shocking scene unfolding right now. blocks in midtown manhattan are cornered off as the investigation is ongoing. what we know about the suspect, 5'10", man, wearing a cream colored jacket and a black hat. was able to flee. there's an ongoing manhunt to locate him. no further language about what further t

and michael, you're a cnbc contributor as well.rant, on the case for small caps, micro strategy is one of them and small caps is another is this performance living up to its goals for you and you think it will continue into next year? >> yeah. certainly you've seen small caps outperform large caps, after we had the cpi report which started bringing in the fed to cutting rates into the equation. and so we do continue to believe that longer term holders should focus more on small caps just because they are cheap relative to the large cap counterparts and if you believe the market is going to continue pushing higher, it needs to broaden out which it has recently and we expect that to continue into 2025. >> the larger question is do you expect conditions to be favorable for the market overall. is there any reason for people to overly bet on the small caps instead of find things to like about stocks broadly >> look, i think there are a lot of risks that are still out there in 2025. we're in a economic cycle and inflation is not back to
