a coast guard helicopter has been searching this area around the bay bridge as well as several coast guard boats out on the water at this hour. it started an hour ago with a single vehicle accident on the bay bridge. there were three people in the vehicle. when officers ended up going to the bridge to help with the people in the vehicle, two of them had jumped the fence and were walking on the bike path. and then when officers went to confront them, that's when one of them slipped or fell somehow into the water from the bike path. at last word, she was seen somehow floating north -- in a northerly direction. so that's where they are concentrating their search at this hour. we'll continue to follow this for you and we'll have more information at the top of the hour. right now at the bay bridge, anne makevoc, kpix 5. >>> developing news in the south bay now, a police standoff in morgan hill ended overnight. kpix 5's kiet do is outside a house on manor court to tell us what we know so far about this tense situation. >> reporter: good morning. this thing pretty much wrapped up a couple of

[ inaudible ] >> we learned more information about the woman trapped over the cliff 50 yards away from us and 250 yards down the cliff if daly city. she is 54. coast guard helicopter has done a couple of passes and rescuers are coming up with a land to get her off the cliff. the helicopter is expected to return in 30 minutes for the rescue. the reason why the helicopter was needed because rescuers were chased off by her two dogs. she walked with the pit bulls and a 2-year-old man at midnight and he tumbled down the cliff. he walked out but was take were to the hospital. the womans with trapped 75' to 100' up the cliff. we have seen the coast guard helicopter assessing the situation and flying by, and firefighters do not believe she is injured. the dogs are not stuck. animal really is here. if they can get the dogs uncontrol it makes it easier for the firefighters. the second option is to use nonlethal weapons on them possibly bean bag gun to get them away from the woman. the he

this is a coast guard helicopter which has since been grounded. they are going to send another one up so at daybreak. in the meantime there are officers posted along the shore hoping that she will end up making it out of the bay on her own. this all started with a car crash in the eastbound lanes of the bay bridge. officers found a vehicle stopped on the right shoulder. there was one passenger standing beside the vehicle. another two people walking away about 200 yards away. so an officer followed them. >> we believe it's the driver jumped over the rail and was holding from the railing and as the officer was about 50 yards away, she began to slip and fall. >> reporter: now, the coast guard has been tracking the likely direction of somebody who was in the water. they are trying to determine the flow as to where this woman might be. they are also trying to question the other passengers in the car. but the drop from the bike path was about 70 to 80 feet. the water is between 50 and 60 degrees. so every moment that goes by not good news. live on the b

we will utilize the coast guard as well. coast guard is launching helicopter from air station in san francisco. they are going to come out here and aguess the situation. if they can get to her before we can, they will remove her. >> reporter: back out here live, there is no trail behind the fence. we're not sure why someone would walk their dog in this area. firefighters cut it open so they can conduct this rescue operation but normally that area is entirely closed in. it's supposed to be off limits to people obviously because of the dangers. that cliff 200 to 300-foot cliff on the other side of it. and fire officials confirm to us that in fact this same area is the same place where about a year ago one man died and two others were injured also walking along the cliff here at palisades park. sol fire officials are not sure why people are -- why the man and woman were walking their dogs here this morning. the woman was stuck about 150 feet down the cliff. at last check the coast guard helicopter is in the area sort of passing

a coast guard helicopter is up in the air. a boat is in the water scanning the waters just north of the bay bridge. the chp says this woman climbed the rail along the bike path and somehow lost her grip falling about 70-80 feet into the water. the good news is according to the chp the chp believes this is a survivable fall in their words. the fall came after a solo car crash in the eastbound lanes of the bridge early this morning. that is the decline section of the eastern span. three women were inside that car when it crashed. all of them in their early 20s. after the car came to rest apparently the women got out of the car. two climbed on to the bike path. as a chp officer was approaching he saw one woman climb over the rail and fall. >> one of the passengers we believe is the driver jumped over the rail and holding from the railing and as the officer was about 50 yards away she began to slip and fall. >> reporter: now the two other women who were inside that car are being detained and questioned by chp officers right now as
