look at each other when linda came out because when you think about this, this team coming from cobb county just outside of atlanta, one of the largest counties in georgia and putting on a professional presentation. never really going to the other side, even when they were being baited about race, they never fell for that. they kept moving the ball forward when it came to the actual facts, the video and how everything laid out. and to take it another step, the idea that laws have changed in this state surrounding this case is just amazing. we really don't see things move that fast in progression. when you think about it the george floyd act still hasn't passed but in this case, in georgia, they have made changes already. >> reporter: and we have to mention one more thing. there are more charges coming, federal charges. so that's a whole other potential trial or maybe they make a deal, i don't know. but there are more charges coming. right now these three men are facing life in prison without parole if that is what the judge decides. we know that's what the prosecution is going to be asking

and it was difficult to relinquish that control to the cobb county prosecutor's office. of course we had to under the law. and they did what they had to do to secure a conviction. i applaud them for putting on an airtight case that led to the conviction of these men. that he invited wanda and mark and you say marcus and their supporters to attend they're press conference. we're going to step back and allow the prosecutors to make a presentation about their case as we stand with them in solidarity and thank them for their efforts. >> it's a good example for when lee merritt is texas attorney general. the prosecution is from cobb county, another area of georgia, that seated the people before him.hey're thinking what kind of case can i put on? they avoided discussing race until closing arguments. they didn't make any characterization that the defendants viewed ahmaud as inherently dangerous and inherently criminal, even though that clearly isn't a case that the prosecution made. >> you know, john, from the outset of this trial, i was the one who said race was the 13th juror in this case. i had the conversation with mark last night. and i was the one who made the point that i feel like it's the prosecution who said, wait a minute, maybe we don't want to push on this issue because it could offend some of the jurors. while the defense is going full throttle, not shying away from it. that says a lot about the demographic we're talking about, about our national discourse on race. it is a very interesting thing to observe that the prosecution has really tried to walk a tightrope while invoking themes around white privilege, white entitlement with regard to their summation and rebutta

make sure that the people who killed her son were held responsible and linda, the prosecutor from cobb countyame here to put on this case talked about what the jury had to do and what they saw when it came to the evidence. >> after we picked the jury, we looked at them and realized that we had very, very smart, very intelligent, honest jurors who were going to do their job, which is to seek the truth. and so we felt that putting up our case, it didn't matter whether they were black or white, that putting up our case, this jury would hear the truth, see the evidence and that they would to the right thing and come back with the correct verdict. >> jessica, when you think about this, when that woman stepped out of court yesterday, they were cheering for her. never seen that for a prosecutor before. when it comes to this case, it comes down to the cell phone video that was captured by one of the defendants. that's what really started this whole conversation. one of his lawyers leaked that video thinking it was going to help in terms of calming the community down. it only did the reverse. so many

so it fell on the district attorney, the assistant district attorney of cobb county to come in here and a sigh of relief that the verdict went the way it did. >> you know, basil, cal's reporting is so important to take us through the legal history, and i think this is an important moment to see how this almost didn't happen. we almost didn't get to today because there almost wasn't a case made against these three men, and i watched the "new york times" has a video that is really hard to watch, but it sort of re-creates everything that happened, and he was hunted. he was stalked, and he was killed, and it's all on tape, and i wonder if relief is still so inadequate. i mean, this should have been open and shut. this wasn't really as callous as the facts weren't in dispute. tell me how you feel about it. >> well, i sort of agree, there's this sense of relief, this sense of joy that comes from this verdict, but there are all of these countervailing forces. the fact that this was videotaped, what if it wasn't. the fact that it was 74 days before they were charged, that they went through mult
