senator cochran all to take pictures. >> yes, you heard that right. a 28-year-old mcdaniel supporter broke into nursing home where cochran's wife resided for the past 13 years, bedridden and ailing with dementia, to take a picture for an online hit piece on cochran. that's creepy but that's not all. three other individuals arrested in what is looking like a watergate-style con conspiracy to break into a nursing hiem and all four of the alleged conspirators are mcdaniel supporters, one on the board of directors of the mississippi tea party. prosecutors say they were others who knew about the video and there could be more arrests on the way. the question is whether it leads back to chris mcdaniel. joining me is slate political reporter who just left the state of mississippi covering this on the ground, dave, first of all, what were they doing? were these tea party activists breaking into the home and others conspireing to break into the home of a woman suffering from dementia? >> i met with the suspect's wife, believing her husband trying to make a name

cochran in the state of mississippi. two incumbents that might be in trouble. at the moment republicans are pretty confident. cochran not quite out of the woods yesterday. the question, maggie haberman, we have a ways to go. so far the tea party is getting crushed. why is it different this time than 2010, 2012. >> energy is very different than 2010. also important to remember the element of surprise. the tea party wave was a wave. this has been a slow roll for the last several years. you an establishment that's getting prepared. you have groups like the chamber of commerce that are spending very heavy and aggressively. you also have places like the cochran race, it's important to remember that is not a seat the democrats are going to pick up. regardless -- that's a bit of a different situation. to your point about 2010, those are seats that became blue in some cases. it's not quite the same impetus now. republicans have have put the tea party away. >> is the tea party in some ways winning by losing in the sense of tom tillis who won in north carolina last week?

and cochran will have challenges.mbent some sympathy, nobody likes to see this in the context of any campaign or any context, for that matter. >> is there anything that ties this -- >> i was going to say there is a hyper aggressive effort on the part of the cochran supporters to tie it to mcdaniel, so much so that you wonder if they're concerned about the state of the race. it kind of speaks for itself in terms of the actual action of breaking into a nursing home. >> the suggestion is that cochran has somehow -- somehow cochran has not been good to this wife even though he says that is not true -- >> i think it is a broader play, a very hand-handed one at that. this is now put out there in the public that there was in scenario as though that would somehow help mcdaniel, which to me, is crazy. >> and let's talk about the doctor in oregon who won her primary challenge last night despite a lot of personal baggage coming out about her. she could pose a real challenge, theoryically. >> oregon has been a tough challenge for
