kit: and colleen revealed a secret for the look. colleen: it looks like a dress to us, but because she had to do a lot of action in the dress, we made it a two-piece costume. it took probably a total to make this dress of 200 hours. this look was sort of my kind of intro to the queen look because it's a soft fabric. it's edged with leather cording to give it strength so it sticks out from the waist. the hours spent on this dress would be from 100 to 150 hours. this obsession with humans has to stop. this is king triton, the king of the sea. i want to sculpt it in clay. i want it to feel like it's part of a human. we added some sort of elements of seaweed that could have been embellished with gold. kit: fans be surprised to know that the costumes in the film weren't designed for the water, except this one. this is the costume that actually worked in the water the most. i would say over 1,000 man hours to make this costume. she killed it in that movie. such a good one. all right, well now let's move on to our new interview with countr

when your mother colleen would take you to a library early on in your life, what were some of the books that impacted you or grabbed your attention? >> well, i loved anything that had to do with fairy tales and all of those types of things, but also, there was one book, bright april, that someone gave me. that's when i learned about library fines. it's the first book where i saw myself in a book. i loved all of these other things and other places, but when i saw another little brown girl with pig tails who was a brownie, i said, oh, because if we tell young people that books are important and they don't see themselves in a book, what kind of message? that's why memoirs are so important, too, that you see yourself and you relate. >> i pulled this article out of the wall street journal. >> my goodness. >> an op-ed by brenda cronyn who works at the wall street journal and the title of it is books resist digital domination. and a quote was, reading is a commitment. there are too many easy alternatives today. >> yes. and it's a commitment that it's important that though you don't have book g

colleen shogan you became the first female archivist of the united states. you recently hosted the first lady and chief justice john roberts in the national archives rotunda for your ceremonial swearing in. you wore white. tell us why i wore white? because that was the color adopted by the suffragists when they were advocating for the 19th amendment. i was the vice chair of the women's suffrage centennial commission. so that's very meaningful. me and i wanted to really invoke spirit as i took the oath of office as the first woman to become archivist the united states. what does it mean to you to be the first woman? it means a lot. it means, i think, a lot for representation and i think it's very important for young girls and boys to see women in these roles. i think it also means a lot to those who work in this area in libraries and archives and museum cms, which is a profession and career track, which is dominated by women, but oftentimes times, although it's changing, oftentimes don't see women as in the leadership in those organizations, what do you think

i did my first book. >> [ indiscernible ] >> i was just singing colleen's praises i went to work in the white house in early 2002. i had been a political appointee of the department of labor previously and i came to the bush administration from the hill but i had a scholarly background having gotten a phd as you said from the university of texas. with a great interest in the presidency i wrote my dissertation and then my first book. i had that kind of historical training background i actually had been in the archives and multiple archives and i had seen presidential memos with the presidents writing on the margin so that really gave me the bog and the jones to see what was going on and how it worked in the white house. most people really don't have that understanding when they get there so having worked there i have that combination of understanding from a scholarly perspective. i had a number of jobs in the white house including -- deputy assistant to the president, in terms of favorite memories i really want to do two and i think it relates to this book. one is pop-culture and the

i'm part of every year since 1977 frankenstein castle has hosted the country's biggest colleen event, which spans almost 2 weeks when it comes to the fear factor. everything here is allowed. ringback and i came to germany in 1997. halloween is viewed as an american export in hardly celebrated anywhere. but all that has changed now. and while halloween in germany may not be as widespread as in the west, it is growing in popularity. and when german celebrate, they go out in this castle is the perfect venue doctor frankenstein's monster didn't actually live here. of course, he was a took to his character out of mary shelley's famous novel, which was inspired by events that took place here. the preparations for halloween at the castle begins some 6 weeks in advance. located outside of the western city of frankfort, the castle itself, dates back to the 13th century. the i grew up with halloween. but why do germans like it so much? i know we and especially when is the best time of year, because we can be creative. we can build sets here and scare people here. and you can take on different r
