the snap program is vital to over 400,000 residents in the state of connecticut. they rely on this assistance. many working mothers, many single parents rely on the supplemental nutrition assistance program to feed their children. as a teacher, i recognize that kids can't learn when they're hungry. this is not their fault. and i think the one thing that we're not talking enough about and the last point i'm going to make is that this shutdown is eroding people's confidence in government. i ran on the platform that government works, that good government works, and it's there to help people until they can help themselves and then at the point where they can stand, they turn around and give back to their communities. that was the platform i ran on. that's what got me elected. this idea that we help each other, that we are communities of people, that message mobilize young people, it energizes young people, engage people that never saw themselves as part of government. this is not government working. this is not what it's supposed to look like. this shutdown is not wha

hundreds of federal workers across the country are per load as we speak, including over a thousand in connecticut but that ec not the extent of the damage when you start having folks at the airport security now able bo show up for their jobs because they have to work somewhere else in order to put food on the table when you start creating questions about whether food stamps are going to go out or get paid when you can have the department g of agriculture functioning to help our farmers he were starting to affect a whole lot of people. you are starting to drag down the entire economy. so, my hope, my wish is that we both reopen the federal government. the fact ofat the matter is this happens every now and again occasionally somebody makes a demand something they can't get through the normal political process and they say if they don't get that demand they are going t to shut down the government. every time i've been through one of these it is the party making the demand that relents and we agreed that isn't the way that isn't the proper way in order to try to get what you want in the united states
