paul ryan did something that mitchell plague connel couldn't do, so the gop had a big celebration with the president in the rose garden. they declared obamacare dead and then it failed in the senate. like healthcare there's a slim margin of tax reform in the senate as well. if just a handful of republicans vote against it, the bill won't make it and there's sll differences between what the house passed and what the senate wants to pass. the president was asked if the house has a preference. >> the president has been his focus tax cuts for middle l class families simplifying the tax code. slashing taxes for businesses of all sizes so they can grow, create jobs and compete in the global market place. he's laid out those priorities right now. both of those pieces of legislation did that. and that's what he's focused on throughout the process. you didn't see repealing the obamacare individual mandate. its that a priority for the president as well. >> that's something that the president would love to see happen, but in terms of the big things that he laid out on the front end, it's those th

but first, connell mcshane standing by with some of the big headlines impacting everything from wall street to main street this week. >> hey, there, maria, it has been a short but busy newsweek. the department of justice is suing to block at&t from acquiring time warner. that's one of the big stories we've been following alleging that the $85 billion acquisition would substantially lesson competition and also result in higher prices for consumers. in some other media merger news out there, the coke brothers are acquiring time, inc., two titans that have been struggling. to inject some $500 million of equity into meredith if the deal ends up going through. ride sharing company uber announcing that hackers stole the personal data of 57 million people of both drivers and customers. they were able to obtain e-mails and addresses but not credit card info or social security numbers. now, uber kept the data breach a secret for more than a year and paid $100,000 ransom to the hackers to delete the data and keep that breach quiet. taking a look now at the markets for you. the dow, s&p 500, an

connell: that is what the meeting was supposed to be about. one of the points made by chuck and nancy as the president calls them if they don't have any time to waste. on that particular issue, the point they are making it the congressional calendar out of the spending deadline a legislative days as you follow our color coding here in the house headset into the december 8th deadline and it's honest very quickly. two big issues to watch, but as these talks presumably continue behind closed doors. one of the immigration and the other is defense. the fix included for the so-called dreamers. in the going spot here illegally as children. the number of democratic in the house to withhold support for spending if they do not have the six as part of it. on defense, you might see someone like senator john mccain be an ally of the president in pushing for an increase in defense pending, the democrats have come back as well and had a dollar for dollar matching nondefense spending. we know the last time we had something similar back in september, president

and, connell, he was with me yesterday saying he's credentialed by what he's saying.t you to react to this. >> and did you get a chance to pass along the measures being expressed to improve that situation? >> senator danes and i are in pretty constant contact, and we're unified in our position here that we certainly need to close that disparity that doubled, basically, in the senate bill. so it's still a huge concern of ours. but, again, i like the movement so far. i think senator corker was obviously satisfied as well. so the move's in the right direction, and we absolutely need pro growth tax reform. neil: all right. just to put that in some context, he and senator danes of montana were skeptical about the fair and ethical treatment about small or larger companies. we think small companies are getting the shaft. something has been done or will be done we're told the president personally at the luncheon yesterday to address their concerns. but whatever they get, someone else doesn't get; right? >> yeah. i mean, that's still the concern i think with corker too. if you
