eastern contra costa county has been watching bigger thunderstorms building. napa county over towards solano county looking at lighter rain but here comes the rain now into san francisco. this is the outer band. we'll see several waves of these showers come on through. what you're looking at there, that orange box that just popped up to the east around merced, that is a severe thunderstorm warning that's been issued east of interstate 5 just within the last minute or two. around the bay area, here come the bands of showers moving on in. we will continue to see this cold air aloft coupled with an unusually strong jetstream which is firing like an arrow into the central coast. we have winds higher up going west to east and winds going south to north that sometimes gets these storms to rotate. it can support stronger updrafts which equals some larger hail sometimes. all of this is happening overnight so that's pretty unusual. we could get some hail with some of those heavier showers. you'll see heavier showers start to come on in. the main event right around 3:00
