county. -- the same in mendocino county.helming. it is a tough thing, but just know that the people up here in the front row have your back. i can tell you from a federal perspective the federal government is moving extremely fast to your benefit and our benefit. right away they approved a federal fire assistant grant which will bring resources into the county. that helps a great deal. as soon as the governor and the counties all declare their area disaster areas, we will move that up to the administration through congress, and congress moved quickly to approve a couple of things. most important is that they approved public assistant grants. that means there will be money coming from the federal government to make sure that all of the local responders have the funds necessary to respond to this disaster. that is extremely important. now in the mix is also individual grants. that is what we will see happen as we get this fire out and start moving to recovery. another of people who have been affected by the fire will be able t

half of napa county. i am here to address the issue of the tubbs fire which started in the area outside of calistoga, went to sonoma and then a flare up resulting in the mandatory evacuation of the entire city of calistoga early wednesday morning. the tubbs fire is over 35,000 acres burned. the good news is that it is 10% contain which is an improvement. cal fire and all the resources are coming from all over and doing a great job at keeping the fire away from the city of calistoga. it is not a sure thing but they are doing a great job, and they are feeling positive about the effort. that being said, the city of calistoga, the surrounding unincorporated area is under mandatory evacuation. we ask that people not go there. there are a few residents remaining and we are asking that they leave the city so that the law enforcement, safety personnel and firefighters can do their job. for the calistoga inns evacuated -- calistogans the shelters are the napa college and the american canyon high school at 3000 new

napa county. we are just getting word there are now two more deaths. making that for in napa. napa county. that brings the total number 234 depths. >> that was fire one of the few threatening the area. -- the at was fire. the latest on the details in that ongoing firefight.>> reporter: take a look at the tree over here. this is the best example. it is wrestling a bit but not very much. the winds 5-10 . they were nothing a little while ago. it is conceivable the winds are picking up. they are not terribly difficult right now. all of this terrain truly makes these fires unpredictable.>> reporter: a major area of concern today is the large area around mount veeder between -- and rutherford on the napa valley west inside. this is the high purge view from near the oakville. the goal if at all possible keep the slow moving fire from crossing dry creek road. >> we have different fuel models and different types of fuels that are either smoldering or are flaring up. as long as we can keep it on this side.

the governor has declared a state of emergency for napa county and sonoma county as well as yuba county because of the fire's. in napa county there are three major fires going that is the atlas peak between 8000 and 12,000 acres. the largest at 35,000 acres which is in sonoma county. at this time they do not have any containment on these fires. these are all separate fires, atlas peak started first but they believe that had burned on its own and something ignited the other fires. >> did today confirm any number of injuries or the human toll? >> no, they believe there will be some injuries but currently they do not have any number of evacuees and they don't have any reports of injuries that they could tell us. the fires are currently under investigation but at this time there is no confirmation on fatalities or injuries but paul -- there were some areas that they could not get to around atlas peak. they did have a couple of helicopter rescues and it is hard with the visibility because it is so hazy. they said there were some heroic deeds completed to rescue people. >> so those were done

sonoma and lake county and napa county.focusing on the roads here on highway 101 in santa rosa. highway 101 is open. but there are some exit ramp that's are closed in the area of the main fire right here. hopper road. mendocino and some of the other off-ramps in that area. river road. so please give yourself extra time. we haven't seen much of a commute as is typical for the morning commute. lots of times with he see a lot of slow traffic from santa rosa to pet loom a that hasn't been the case for the past few days. people dealing with more urgent things. this is a look at highway 128, closed from tubs to chalk hill. from left to right there. you can also see 128 is close near the lake because of active fire activity. we get closer to the main part of the bay area commute. highway 24 and 680 have been slow. nothing out of the ordinary there. highway 80, interstate 80 is going to be okay as you drive into san francisco. at the bay bridge, it is backed up for 25 minutes. there is slow traffic, a little hazy for us to show you

as far as the fire goes, it's between napa county and salano county. right now, they are doing structural protection at valley end lane. that's the area the fire is at right now. i want to pull up the information we have for you guys in the last live hit when you stee areas that have been evacuated. here is the information we are getting. the evacuations are west north of rockville road and the upper and lower areas of green valley road. that's the latest information we are getting. the fire is right at the border of the counties, between napa and salano counties. we are smelling the smoke and seeing the haze here in this fairfield area. i'm told from folks on the ground, they are going to clear out this area shortly, not too long from now. we are going move to another area and get more information on that and continue to monitor these things if the evacuations change and more importantly how close the fire is coming through the salano area. >> thank you very much, pete. >> we want to go to meteorologist kari hall. she has been tracking the winds and t

a lot of people cannot get into marin county or sonoma county.r eastbound 37 is opened but officials do not recommend that you drive in the area unless you have to. southbound 11 is open from rohnert park very slow traffic. a closure on highway 101 between mark west springs and steele lane. sonoma county transit buses are not running and neither is the smart train. the smart train service may start up this afternoon but they will reevaluate after the morning. you can see we have a lot of closures on highway 12, highway 129 and silverado trail. we have a lot of fires in the area. the commute for this morning in marin county is ordinary on 101 as people are going through the smoke. on 80 westbound we have people on this freeway so people are coming to the richmond bridge. highway 24 is busy through lafayette and when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza we have an ordinary backup at 10 to 15 minutes and in the south bay traffic has been a little bit light. let's get back to the desk. >>> we had been talking with people who have left their homes, le

and napa county.is expected to worsen because these wins that are variable will eventually shift north. that means it will come in the direction from the north. you can see these errors although the flow is generally light right now. that north flow will bring that smoke from the north bay down into the san francisco bay and south bay into the evening hours, lasting into saturday. right now the wind is generally light. we are looking at 5 miles per hour in kelseyville. low will be a , 14. relative humidity has remained high. all this will change as we get into tonight. atlas peak reporting and northeast bridge around 10. relative humidity is not too bad. that southwest breezes coming in from the pacific is the best breeze we can get when it comes to moist air and relative humidity. not but reported around 40%. a system will drop in and moved to the east. as it does it will pick up the wind and we are looking at the strongest wind later tonight. by 11:00 tonight, notice the wind gusting to near 30 mile

that sonoma county sheriff has confirmed that seven people have died in sonoma county, and they expect that number to go up. they also talked about how harrowing it was last night by saying that some deputies were actually the end down with residents -- pinned down with residents as the fire burned around them. they are also telling people to stay off of roads and stay out of the evacuated areas. him forcefully, they artie said there has been some looting and they have arrested some of those looters. they are getting a lot of assistance from other apartments that smack departments including san francisco, who has sent 100 officers to help out. >> i want to touch a little bit on what the acting police chief of santa rosa said, and perhaps the biggest news coming from him today is that they will be imposing a curfew from 6:45 pm tonight until sunrise. that is an effort to protect those mandatory evacuation areas and keep a lookout for looters. the officers right now are still rescuing and evacuating people from certain areas because they are still seeing those hotspots pop up. there is a

we have closures in sonoma county. napa county. most of the heavy closures are not on the freeways, in fact highway 37 is open. have a lot of closures in sonoma and napa county. one of the major ones is sonoma highway 12 between sonoma and santa rosa. you can get around but there are a lot of detours. highway 128 in napa county and portions of roads off the trail , silverado trail area. highway 101 is open but a lot of offramp's are closed. hopper, river, mendocino, those exits are closed because of fire activity just off the freeway. this is where the heaviest fire concentration was. you will see slow traffic. have not had a real commute from santa rosa heading south to novato. this is a look at the east bay. we have a real commute here taking about an hour. the toll plaza another 20 minutes. if you're looking at the south bay, this is to 80, all the freeways are slow into the west valley. we haven't heard a lot of crashes, but we have had a lot of slow traffic getting into the south bay. index 07. -- 8:07. >>> we go now to napa,
