for more on the dow's dip, other news before the bell, let's turn to courtney reagan. they are going to have a bell, they decided to keep going? >> yeah, exactly, scott. it could be another wild ride. we just don't know. we were up earlier in the futures, we slipped back but now sort of climbing back up again. but yesterday was one of the worst days since the depth of the financial crisis of 2008. there didn't appear to be buyers on wall street yesterday. in fact, the only way that folks were trading was down. investors reacting to s&p's decision to downgrade the u.s. credit rating and fears we could be headed for another recession and increasing worries about with europe's debt crisis. all 30 dow components and every stock in the s&p 500 ended lower. financials took the brunt. bank of america stock plunged 20% yesterday. oil is below $80 a barrel for the first time since last october. and in fact, the only thing that did well were treasury bonds and gold which you mentioned hit a record. we'll get data on productivity and traders focused on the fed which holds a one-d

let's turn to courtney reagan. good morning. >> good morning to you. yeah, it has been quite a volatile week. you might want to strap yourself in because it could be another volatile day on wall street futures were sharply higher following another huge sell-off on wednesday. but now we have definitely parred back the gains after europe hit session lows. they still have a couple of hours left to trade. yesterday the markets erased all of tuesday's gains and then some. stocks were lower by financials, bank of america fell 11% on recession worries and losses in europe. the markets there were rocked by rumors that france could be next to use its aaa credit rating. gold a safe haven hit a record of $1800 an ounce before pulling back. analysts say the huge moves we've seen suggest emotions are playing a pretty big factor. the dow plunged to 10,719. the dow has lost more than 2,000 points over the past 14 sessions, and the nasdaq shed 101, to 2381. fewer homes received foreclosure notices. realty track says the number of notices fell 7% from june and for% fro

courtney reagan live at cnbc. good morning. >> good morning to you, scott.tock market futures are lower. we have come off of our lows of the day but still it looks as if markets will open to the red as investors get their first chance to react to s&p's downgrade of the u.s. credit rating that happened on friday night when markets were closed. s&p cut the u.s. from aaa to aa plus and warns further cuts could come if the government doesn't take significant steps to cut the deficit. asian markets fell 2% and europe is modestly lower now with a couple hours left to trade. the european central bank is taking steps the to try to keep that region's debt crisis from spreading. oil is sliding below $84 a barrel. gold, one of those safe haven investments, has breached a record $1700 an ounce, trading at around $1708 for $56 gain. many think they have been exp t expecting the downgrade so the impact on the bond market should be small. and it shouldn't force mutual funds to have to sell. people will continue to put money in u.s. treasuries because we're still the safest
