the culpepper police department fired daniel harmon wright after an internal investigation into the shooting death of patricia cook. harmon wright claimed he shot in self-defense after cook tried to drive off with his arm caught in the car's window. he was indicted on a murder charge last month. he is out on bond, due back in court next month. >>> he stopped the wrong guy. a maryland man charged tonight with impersonating a police officer after he pulled over. a police officer. police say anthony maestro giovanini flagged down a car in upper marl brie. a capital heights police officer was inside the vehicle. the officers say the man claimed he was a military police officer from louisiana. the officer told him he had no jurisdiction. he was later arrested. >>> yesterday's heat was oppressive? today we broke a record. temperatures hit nearly 100 degrees. good news is, the end is in sight. comes with a few storms though. an up sedate from sue outside in the heat, still. >> brian, it's going tonight with a bang tomorrow.

temperatures throughout the area, we're 86 in fred ricks, 70 in culpepper, 79 in winchester, the cooling off coming from showers and storms moving through. we'll take a look at this. two areas of very, very heavy rain, tropical moisture down through the southeast, and then we've got more moisture, powerful line of storm just south of chicago, paducah, kentucky, that continuous line where they have several warnings out for severe thunderstorms. meanwhile, around here, just showers for us, winchester, warrenton, and around lock u.s. dale, this area is creeping to the north and northeastward, so you folks in lees burg, you'll be getting a few showers, scattered showers for the evening, more coming in after midnight, a lot more for tomorrow. that's this tropical moisture down south, where there was upwards of 13 inches of rain through areas of the deep south. here's what's going to happen. we've had an area of low pressure and the cold front. both of these, tropical moisture will be making their way northward, so we're due to see quite a bit of rain, anywhere between maybe an inch of rain, s

the dew point is on the rise the next few days today. 69 in martensburg. 64 in culpepper so another nice night tonight. a nice start tomorrow. once the sun starts to come up it will heat up the atmosphere very, very quickly. the ridge of high pressure to the west brought all this area back to the west to the century mark. 102 in kansas city and 102 in dallas. but talking about 115 in hill city kansas, 106 in wichita. and goodland kansas at 110 degrees. that is ridiculous heat and it will move our way. warm overnight and into the day tomorrow. a hot day tomorrow with abundant sunshine. but the humidity moves in during the day on friday. that's when it gets excessively hot. that's why we're going to see a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms. not a lot of them. but any storms that develop in this kind of heat have the potential to produce strong winds and heavy downpours too. but the biggest factor is going to be the heat. tomorrow morning, mostly clear and a nice start. 56 to 67 degrees. you won't need to worry tomorrow. even though the temperatures will be in the 90s. not too humid.
