currie is on trial for extortion, bribery and conspiracy. in closing arguments in the federal courthouse in baltimore prosecutors reminded the jury that senator currie approached the shoppers food warehouse chain for a monthly stipend, supposedly for consulting in minority outreach and public affairs. significant money was involved, nearly $250,000 over a five and-a-half year period. prosecutors say instead of pr he used his legislative clout to inteer convenient for shoppers on traffic, real estate, zoning and liquor license issues as well as legislation and never disclosed, says prosecutors that he was being paid by the grocery chain. currie's wife testified she did the family paperwork and she failed to list the shoppers money on annual public disclosure documents. prominent maryland politicians testified that senator currie is disorganized and forgetful. attorneys for two former shoppers executives who are also charged in connection with the case argued the consulting deal was legal. the stakes in the case are very high. currie is 74 yea
