that's why the snow warning is in effect in d.c. as well as those emergency declarations here in washington and in at least six other concern right now about safety in this region. tha's why we are seeing a lot of school districts go ahead and say they are going to stay closed tomorrow because even as crews clear all of this snow, they are concerned about ice d about the frigid temperatures. >> chad, how dangerous is this arctic blast? >> the air behind this will be the coldest we have experienced since last year. but we are not talking about historic cold temperatures. we are not talking about significant record breaking temperatures. but we are talking about temperatures that will stay below freezing for a long time. it will be breaking water pipes. you will be very careful in the upper midwest when temperatures are down to the single digits. when this happens, chicago or any town, usa, the water pipes are going to be a real problem, freezing, bursting, and then entire apartment complexes may not have water for days on end and it

and that does include washington, d.c. so you can see late in the half, latter half of the day tomorrow through the evening and early overnight hours, you're going to see some snow. what this means is, while the snow itself will be out in time for the inauguration festivities, it's going to be so cold that snow is not going to melt away. so you're going to have the snow still around these areas, not to mention mixed in with all of those very cold temperatures. most of these areas looking at maybe about 2 to 4in. but you'll see this purple band that kind of cuts through here. this is where we're talking about four, five even perhaps as much as six inches of snow. and again, the key thing here is that with all of those incredibly cold temperatures, the snow is going to stick around. for example, look at dc high of only 25 on monday 24, tuesday 22 on wednesday and 30 on thursday. so again, that snow, whatever they end up getting is going to stick around. >> all right, tis the season. it usually is very cold on inauguration. i
