a lot of beautiful trees in the d.c. area. we could see power outages because of the winds and also the very heavy wet snow. talking about snowfall totals lastly, want to show you this graphic. d.c., you're in the 24 to 36 inch range, that bullseye just to the west of the city. i think east of the 95 corridor you'll see about two feet, two and a half feet, we could see higher amounts west of 95. and look at that purple bullseye right there. charlottesville, 36 inches or more. new york city, i think that's going to be the biggest question because depending on exactly the track of this storm and how fast it moves offshore, you could get around 8 to 10 inches. so areas could get higher, some a little lower, wolf. a lot of questions still to be answered but we're in this for the long haul. we're in it now and it's going to be lasting for the next 24 to 36 hours. >> jennifer, you're staying with us throughout the night for complete updates on the forecast. standby for a moment. i want to go to the washington, d.c. mayor muriel bowse

cindy: it is for the d.c. area and the new york area from -- out to rhode island. you need to know what is happening. i put forecast snow out for big cities. d.c., baltimore, 18 to 24 inches. philadelphia, one foot to one foot and a half -- to one half e. major impacts with the snow, the wind, and the roads. there will be some bigger impacts. here locally, not expecting the significant impacts we have to the south. some snow moves in saturday afternoon and moves out monday morning area we will have strong wind along the coast line and the storm will dive southward. as we get towards tomorrow morning, it is bringing ice and snow to parts of the deep south. into saturday morning, notice how the storm is ramping up coming off the carolina coast line. there will be heavy snow from new york down to d.c. it lists northward during the day on saturday. we are just starting to see the northernmost edge flirt with the south coast of new england. by lunchtime and early afternoon, the progress is northward. it is still mainly south of the pike. during the evening and overnight

evening rush hour essentially has not ended in the washington, d.c. area. the d.c. beltway, the big interstate that goes in a circle around the city is still a mess in many places. interstate 95 in virginia south of d.c. still a mess. other interstates throughout the area still bad, as well. slowly but surely things are better. but in just a few hours evening rush hour is going to bleed into morning rush hour. and what happened, as you said earlier, their crews were caught totally unawares. a lot of roads were untreated. even though it was a very small snowstorm, the cars drove over the snow, turned it into ice, that caused a huge amount of accidents and then firefighters and ambulances, they couldn't get to the accidents to clear them. so it just turned into a giant mess. there are stories of folks who have been sitting in their cars for six, seven hours and have barely moved an inch. >> and yeah. >> this is something nobody really expected either. so they weren't prepared. people probably didn't have water and the things they would need to be able to sit in their
