dagen: jon it is dagen.ending this slowdown contraction. >> maria like on that point, if we if we want to make sure that the police are not downtowned maybe federal government should be having discussions about -- funding police departments likely local governments are under so much strain. dagen: on that note. maria: i agree with you. dagen: 10 billion dollars set for states and localities. and also, tribes. there hasn't been even close to a billion dollars spent. i think in recent weeks it was only $100 million of that $10 billion had been spent, so the issue is, is to loosen up the rules and restrictions on how the states and localities are spending that money. that's one issue. and then the other thing is, people, even because that $600 extra per week from the federal level expired, it's going to take weeks even if congress can get something done to reinstate some, if not all, of that so you will see a dramatic slowdown in spendi spending, aggregate spending, if you let the payments lapse, they will fall

dagen: can i add something to that, jon. maria: i tell you, dagen -- dagen: go ahead, maria.out this a couple years ago, we brought it to our viewers' attention, the fact that we knew that all of these criminals were going to be getting off and getting on the -- and returning to the streets. we didn't even expect it to be as bad as it is today and we called it, that it would be bad. but this is even worse than i expected. i have to say. dagen: yeah. to jon's point, what jon covered in that journal article is about how shootings and homicides have spiked but other types of violent crimes, like rape, have not. and that is unique to the pandemic in many ways, where people are stuck at home, they're not going out, rapes are not happening. burglary, breaking and entering not happening but gangs are taking over the streets. the reason i get so angry about new york city is because has been years in the making. this is bail reform, it's the cops being told by the city council and district attorney that you are not going to enforce quality of life crimes. i is a mayor who is useless,

good morning, dagen. all right. good morning, everyone. look, on a big news day like this, it can be very hard to decide where to start. a russian vaccine, joe biden's imminent pick for running mate, apple closing in on a $2 trillion valuation, tim cook becoming a billionaire. nah, none of the above. we start with a record-breaking day on wall street. here it comes. the broad-based s&p 500 is just a fraction away from a new all-time high. we may hit that high this morning. and the dow will open with a gain of what, maybe 350 points. it's at the 27,000 level, up from 18,000 in march. check your 401(k) and smile. what's going on here? well, first there's a lot of talk about congress adding to the president's virus aid. the democrats made a big mistake walking away from mr. trump from any deal, allowing the president to jump right in. wall street would love another trillion or two of stimulus. here we go. can you believe this. putin says russia has a vaccine. they have not finished clinical trials but his daughter has taken it. i'm a skeptic.
