joining us now to take a closer look at this storm is meteorologist dahlia kirshbaum.he is in maryland. you look at weather images all the time. how does this one stand out? >> well, what's really interesting about hurricane matthew is that it rapidly intensified from a category 1 to a category 5 in a little over 24 hours. and this is extremely important to better understand how these storms intensify, how they move. so satellite images like the one you see here can look three-dimension allally through storm to understand where we might have extreme rainfall or snow in hugely convected systems. this is taken from october 2nd, but you have extreme rainfall 150 miles out. this is an image right before it affected haiti and the dominican republic. it's very important to understand how the storm is moving and intensifying but how we can better understand it to help noah and other storm centers how to convey storm impacts. >> and how do you compare this to other storms, other tropical storms? >> there have been major hurricanes that have bad maid landfall in the u.s. it's b
